Mitch Albom: "Cleveland's Now America's Team"

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Cleveland is not and will not be America's team. Cleveland is an armpit and has been losing it's population for decades. What Lebron did was insensitive for a local product but let's not get delusional about the country suddenly giving a shit about Cleveland. Cleveland will be the last and only Lebron haters a year from now.

I want to party with you.

BTW: If I offended anyone from Detroit with my hyperbole, I apologize. I just think Albom is a writer that you don't question on the subjects of sports, loyalty, or pretty much anything.

You couldn't be more wrong. Outside of the multiplying Miami Heat fans, he lost a majority of fans around the world fans on Thursday. That will not go away in one year. Do you honestly think two years from now if Cleveland were to play Miami in the first round, the nation will be rooting for Miami??

troy4heisman20 got banned (not for the above post specifically), so he won't be able to carry out this argument...

Picking up Albom's unquestioned integrity:

His newspaper went on strike about 15 years ago, which he honored and wasn't able to continue his sports writing. He saw his former Brandeis U professor, Morrie Schwartz, who was dying from Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS), on Nightline, and went to visit him at his home in Boston. They agreed to meet on Tuesdays, so Albom started flying there every Tuesday. They discussed life, their worlds, and what's most important.

As RK points out, the book he wrote about their talks and life lessons sold 11 million copies and was made into a movie. Dude's never changed. He's a die-hard fighter for Detroit and for the same spirit and never-quit values he sees in Clevelanders. The guy's integrity and truth telling should not be questioned.

BTW, Schwartz' favorite quote was "love each other or perish."

Im gonna take the angsty teenager route and tell all the people calling us "Americas Team" to fuck off. I wouldn't really care for the new name if it weren't for the fact that the second LeBron steps out on a court they are all going to cram on to LeBron roid-affected dick.

WE DON'T WANT YOUR PITY. GO AWAY.

No. ESPN and National writers, etc might cheer for Miami to beat every team, but not true fans across the country. I'd say that a fan of MBA basketball will be cheering for each team who are playing the Heat. The underdog is most always cheered for. In Cleveland's case; I'd say NBA fans would be rooting for them in the coming year over most teams, especially the Heat.

In cases where LA or Boston or Chicago, etc... good teams are playing the Heat this year, I'd say the HEAT will be the underdogs, but fans will be cheering for the other team... NOT the Heat.

You're right, true fans will take the underdog ala us. However, the nation does not have an abundant supply of true fans. The majority of fans these days get their information from ESPN > forming opinions based on ESPN. As long as ESPN is - according to deadspin - "The whoringest whores to ever whore." then most fans will remain fickle. But what the hell do I know, maybe Cleveland is the new Rudy. Really, I dont care much for it. I just want the trophy.

we don't need anyone's sympathy especially from the state up North. were not a pretty city, were hard nosed and tough, we need players who r one of us that's all we need. Not some damn sympathy. this article is trying to make us seem pathetic, its a backwards compliment and an insult.
