MLB - Trade Rumors and Speculation

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
OK, what do you make of these comments?

Johnny Damon really misses Florida. And if Johnny Damon was GM, he would release Johnny Damon so young guys can play.

In no way would that be self-serving to Johnny. Oh, by the way, he is also contemplating retirement. Who would deny a former star like him from spending possibly his last season (he might retire, you know) with a team in a pennant race? One closer to his home? Why, the club should just read the innuendo and let him go, right? :chuckles:

With the way Tim Fedroff is playing, I would actually be fine with letting Damon go sign with TB or whoever the hell it is that he thinks would pick him up. Not that I think Fedroff is any real answer, but he has exceeded expectations to this point so I see no reason not to reward that. What I dont think needs to happen is Johnny Damon getting cut, collecting the rest of his pay from the TRibe and then still signing a deal elsewhere. I think a polite 'why not tell your agent to find a taker and we'll work out a cash deal' will be uttered when Johnny finally sacks up and tells the GM what he really wants, instead of this nonsense.

I don't think many of you have actually watched Ichiro Suzuki the last two years- let alone this season.

That move was the team not only granting him his wish, but also avoiding the PR fiasco at the end of the year when they would have refused to resign him anyway. Now both avoid the embarassment of Ichiro wanting to be paid like a star still and the club having to politely tell him no.

Also, nice deal for the Tigers- trading one top pitching prospect and getting a no2-3 starter and a starting 2B in return. Man, prospects are being overvalued if that was the best deal the Marlins could find for that package. At this point, after Doug Fister turned into Cy Young after getting dealt to Detroit, I won't put anything past Anabol Sanchez. We just have to see what happens. Either way, a solid return for the Tigers for just one top prospect, and if they retain Sanchez- and he doesn't implode in the AL- they come out with what Turner would have likely become had he panned.

The failure to even bring up LaPorta and stills plays that bum Cunningham shows how ignorant this FO Is.

It's not even a LaPorta thing for me anymore - LaPorta is a AAAA guy at this point. How the hell is Cunningham still on this roster? He's 26, has a .175/.245/.247 slash line (which almost mirrors 2011 with SD except that he slugged a bit higher) with no speed and yet somehow he's gotten 100 ABs. There has to be someone out there who would make better use of those ABs than Austin Kearns 2.0.

And with the Indians beginning to slip a bit in the standings -- they'd lost four straight and seven of nine entering Monday -- Damon believes he'll be let go if the team slides out of playoff contention.

"If we're not in contention, I'll be the first one they drop," Damon said. "The team needs to work toward the future. Obviously it's up to [general manager] Chris [Antonetti], but that's the way I see it."

He absolutely is right, if we are out of it come mid-August what is the point of keeping him around.

I Kind of agree However I hope people see how this off season set this team back right now and just goes to show for whatever reason they do not want to take the steps to building a contending team and just hope to get luck a year here or there. I am getting tired of this approach and the fact the team Is not exciting to watch at all unless you like good defense. To make It worse even If this team did make the play offs I still would be hard pressed to sit through the whole game. If they make a few or one exciting good move. They might be able to at least a very slim shot at teams like the Yanks and Texas. I agree their record and amount of games are there and not yet out of It. The next level however has not been reached and each off season I hope they get that ONE just one guy that can make this team better. The failure to even bring up LaPorta and stills plays that bum Cunningham shows how ignorant this FO Is.

You can't replace cunningham with Laporta b/c then we have no one to backup centerfield.

While I agree with you - we also don't have anyone to backup short stop, so their logic is a bit flawed there, to me.

His main use seems to be as a defensive replacement in LF. So we have 2 guys platooning there, plus a defensive sub. All for LF. Meanwhile Asdrubal is getting run into the ground at SS.

Cunningham is also the RF backup. It doesn't really seem like because it's usually for only an inning or two but but has played in 71 out of 96 games.

That makes sense. Still wish we could spell Asdrubal now and then. Feels like a Grady situation.

I get your point but if drubs gets hurt during teh game jack han can plan SS in a pinch.

Choo has played Center before, too. I don't know - to me Asdrubal is a guy with a history of being out of shape and struggling in the 2nd half - I'd rather give him the days off than Brantley if I am FORCED to choose (and I find it a little ridiculous that we are being forced to choose - Jason Donald and Cord Phelps are solid UIF options and they are stuck in AAA so we can keep Lopez, Duncan and Hannahan.)

Aaron Cunningham is averaging six at-bats per week, guy is here because he can defend all three outfield positions.

Get pumped guys... we just traded for one of the few utility guys who is actually hitting WORSE than Cunningham this year. So excited for the Brent Lillibridge era to begin!

Well...we traded a pitcher who was 7-2 and 2.80 ERA and 8.4 SO/9 in AA this year.

Such a wonderful trade.

The Indians front office makes me want to harm myself.

Easy, he's 5-9 170 pound 26-year-old in Double-A with two pitches.

Not exactly prospect material.
