MLB - Trade Rumors and Speculation

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Kipnis and Pestano for Soriano...!!! Wow. What is Theo smoking in the Cubs front offices?

What the hell are you talking about?

Shapiro didn’t address specifically acquiring someone like Alfonso Soriano from the Cubs. That notion sounds great until you look at his contract and see he’s due to be paid $18 million next season — and until you realize the Cubs asked for 2B Jason Kipnis and RP Vinnie Pestano in return. Is Soriano worth Kipnis and Pestano?

He was reading from the article I posted.

Geez. That isn't even in the ballpark. Not only are they not getting both, they're not getting one..

If we trade Kipnis and Pestano for Soriano, I am officially becoming a Reds fan.

So the Cubs are asking for a 25 year old cornerstone second baseman and a 27 year old lock down reliever for a 36 year old, past his prime, overpaid OF? :hay:

Shapiro: Hey Theo, we were just feeling out the trade market for Soriano.
Theo: How about Jason Ki
Shapiro: Click..... dial-tone.

Eight posts that brought nothing to the table aside from personal attacks... blah. Let's try to work some baseball talk into the thread.

TRADE DEADLINE: GIANTS REPORTEDLY INTERESTED IN INDIANS CLOSER CHRIS PEREZ

The Giants, 13th in bullpen ERA in the majors, are interested in some late-game help, according to Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi.

Rosenthal and Morosi reported on Monday that San Francisco is interested in Cleveland closer Chris Perez. The two said that Cleveland might be unopposed to moving Perez because of its bullpen depth and the fact that he will likely earn about $7 million in the second year of arbitration.

Both also reported that Indians right fielder Sin-Shoo Choo is another attractive player on the trade market.

Perez, 27, is 26-for-28 in save opportunities this season and has a 3.06 ERA.

I certainly hope that if this is being entertained, the Giants are forced to give up some bigtime assets.

Here is a list of their best prospects:

They have a lot of catcher prospects, and Gary Brown would have been on many major league rosters this year. I'm interested in Heath Hembree, who is supposed to be the closer of teh future in San Francisco.

Who do the Giants even have to be worthwhile? Cp and Wolson would give them a crazy(literally) tandem.

Brandon Belt would have been an untouchable prospect at the beginning of the season, but he has struggled to find expected power numbers as their first baseman and now it looks like the Panda might be moved to first. I added a list of what they have in the minors.

Brian Wilson had Tommy John surgery at the start of the season, hence their need for relievers.

The shapiro article basically stated they dont want prospects.

Brandon Belt, Heath Hembree, and Jarret Parker/Chris Dominguez.

Those are three with the Giants who I would deal Perez for. Gotta get a haul for a closer like him; Similar to the deal the Red Sox made for Bailey.

I'd throw in Jack Hannahan with Perez (since Panda to first base leaves a hole at third) and ask for Belt, Hembree, and Gary Brown. The Indians get a young starting first baseman, young center fielder who will start everyday down the road, and the future closer. Meanwhile Giants make their world series run this year.

I would do that trade in a heartbeat. Especially if all we're trading is a closer and a very average 3rd baseman. The Giants are ruining Belt and if he turns out to be a bust, at least we have two other players who could potentially be something.

At the time of the trade the Athletics didn't even get that much for Bailey, who is better than Perez. Looks better now because of Josh Reddick, but no one expected him to have this type of season.

Billy Beane has always said that saves are the most overrated statistic for pitchers, along with win totals. If the Indians have decided to make a move to be a better ballclub next year, I think Perez is the guy you move. He is the walking embodiment of a "sell high."
