In our mock, the Chargers took:
21. Zay Flowers
54. Sam LaPorta
85. DeMarvion Overshown
125. Nick Herbig
156. Wanya Morris
In real life, the Chargers took Quentin Johnson at 21, allowing Zay Flowers to go 22 to Baltimore. I knew a team would fall in love with Quentin Johnson's YAC ability--I still think the Chargers would've been better off with Zay. However, it's cool that these guys went 21/22 in real life and in our mock
At 54, the Chargers got Sam LaPorta, who went 34 in real life. I think his speed and pass catching ability at tight end would've played really well in that offense--but I love Tuli, who the Chargers took at that spot in real life.
At 85, both mock Chargers and real Chargers took the best pass-defending WLB available. In real life, the Chargers took Daiyan Henley. With Henley off the board in our mock, the Chargers got Demarvion Overshown, who ended up going 90 in real life, right around the same spot.
At 125, Mock Chargers got Nick Herbig, who in real life went again at right around that spot--132 to Pittsburgh. Real life Chargers took Derius Davis, and I can't say I'm a fan of that wide receiver selection.
At 156, again both mock Chargers and real life Chargers were thinking the same thing--swing tackle to add depth to the offensive line. Mock Chargers got Wanya Morris, who in real life went at 92 to KC. Real life Chargers got Jordan McFadden.
I just thought it was cool how picks 21, 85 and 156 were all the exact same type of player, just different names--and 21, 85 and 125 were all names who were taken in real life incredibly close to where we mocked them (22, 90, 132).
