With Utah matching the offer to CJ Miles, it appears that Almond is the odd-man-out. They now have a log-jam at SG, and are about to exceed th luxury-tax...something they cannot afford.

They have:

Brewer
Korver
Miles
Almond

At shooting-guard. It is hard to imagine them dumping Corver after giving-up a first for him, and him doing so well for them last year; It is equally unlikely that they let-go of Brewer, who at 6-7 can play/guard 3 positions. Miles obviously wont be traded, so that means that Almond will be getting his pink-slip soon.

Hopefully the Cavaliers offer the Jazz one of their exceptions for him, as he is an extremely under-rated player, and could probably start right-away for us. He is automatic when he sets his feet, and he is "money" from the foul line. He can create his own shot, and is unselfish. He is considered one of the smartest players in the NBA despite him only being 22, and him being a sophmore.

Hopefully Danny jumps-in and steals this guy... I saw him in college, and last year in the D-league, where he averaged about 25-26 points a game on 45% shooting.

I wanted this guy last season... I like his game..

If I'm not mistaken, he had two or three 50+ point games in the D-League last season...

I wouldn't be mad at it. Almond was an absolute monster in the D-League.

Yeah thats D-League though...

Allred was a D-league failure though... he had 16 points a game.

Dble post my bad

If there's a chance to snatch this kid up, I pray that we are doing everything we can to snag him. I'd actually be happy with this offseason if we can steal him and resign Delonte.

Almond could be affected most by Miles

July 26 - Salt Lake Tribune

"The Jazz added another log to their jam at shooting guard Friday, when they re-signed C.J. Miles.

Miles rejoins the glut of shooting guards under contract to the Jazz that also includes Ronnie Brewer, Kyle Korver and Morris Almond.

The Jazz's No. 1 pick in the 2007 draft, Almond could be the player most impacted by the team's decision to keep Miles, who had signed a four-year, $15 million offer sheet with Oklahoma City.

Last year, Almond was the odd man out. He spent most of the season with the Utah Flash of the NBA Development League.

Asked about the Jazz's decision to keep another young player at his primary position, Almond said, "That's good for him. It doesn't really change my mind-set. But on his end, I'm sure he's elated."

Almond knows the competition for playing time increased after the Jazz re-signed Miles but said, "That will work itself out. That's the league, you know? No matter what team you go to, you know a position is not going to be handed to you. You need to compete. That's the nature of the business."

Almond spent the last week playing for the Jazz's summer league team in the Rocky Mountain Revue."

I'd definitely make a run at Almond if the Jazz look to move him. I've liked him as a player and think he's very good prospect. Also seems to have the game that would fit well with the Cavs.
I'm not sure what the Cavs would offer though. Can't see the Jazz just giving him away since he does have value.

I guess the question is would you trade a future protected #1 for Almond? Cavs do have trade exceptions available to take on his salary. Almond is due$1.081 million next season.
If the Cavs project him to be a possible starter than I think I might trade a protected 2009 #1 for him. You have to think the Cavs pick won't be that high. Next year's draft is not projected to be that good so Almond could easily be better than anyone available in the range where the Cavs would be drafting.

My question is, why would the Jazz trade him?

They do have a logjam at the shooting guard spot, but all of them (Korver, Miles, Brewer and Almond) can play the small forward spot...

They're not even going to be close to exceeding the luxury tax, so there's nothing to that... The luxury tax for this year was set at $71.5 million and with Miles salary for next season, they figure to be around $5-$6 million under the luxury tax...

On top of that, what's wrong with having cheap, young depth? Injuries always occur and with Andrei Kirilenko possibly gone at any time (trade rumors) and Matt Harpring not getting any younger, I don't blame them for carrying all the young wing talent they have...

The bottom line is would the Cavs have anything to offer the Jazz or to coax them to give him up and the bottom line is no... Unless we would give them Anderson Varejao, then I doubt we could get him..

We do have TE's to use but that isn't enough for Almond and tossing in 2nd's, along with it, isn't either...

NarlCavs brings up an interesting point about using a 2009 1st but I really would hate it if we were to do that... Not only would that not allow us to use that 1st round pick in acquiring a 2nd option in any deal but that 1st round pick would be used on a player that wouldn't be able to contribute right now... Plus, I'd rather see what's available around draft time and trade it then, then trade it now for Almond...

i dont think utah would deal almond but if they do im all for getting him. allan houston 2.0

Good points Smooth about the #1 pick. I agree and my thought was that the Cavs would have to project Almond as a possible starter if they traded a #1 pick. I wouldn't do it if he was just going to be a bench player. It wouldn't be worth it.

I do have to think one of the Utah SG's could be available. There won't be minutes available for all of their 3 young SG's Brewer, Miles and Almond. I would think if they can get a #1 or depth upfront they'd be willing to deal one of them.

Almond for Cash and a LeBron poster

They have 6 guys at the 2 and 3 spots, so they do have somewhat of a log jam. You have to figure that their lineup would go like this...

sf- Andrei Kirilenko, Matt Harpring
sg- Ronnie Brewer, Kyle Korver, C.J. Miles

So you have to figure that Morris Almond is an odd man out in that situation. The Alan Houston comparison is right on with him too, IMO. I don't know what they'd be asking for him, but if he is or would be available, you have to go after a guy like him if it's not too expensive.

who's this guy??? i'm going to check him out first
