Morris Claiborne Vs. Trent Richardson: pick a side

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I hope you're not serious. I really do.

I hope you're not serious. I really do.

Did AP help the Vikings defense? Did Steven Jackson help the Rams defense? (BOTH were scheduled to pick before us).

Has MJD helped the Jags defense?

How much did Frank Gore help the 49ers defense? Another team that stunk up the league before this year.

Did Foster really help the Texans defense or was it Cushing, Mario Williams and Company?

So you agree that having an elite RB doesnt matter then?
No, but I'll take a play-making, elite RB over a play-making, elite CB any day. Assuming Claiborne actually becomes that.

Ever hear of a pick six/turnovers?
Yes, that one or two times a season a player might get that overly common pick six.

Are you seriously comparing Eric Wrong and Brandon McDonald to Haden and MoC? Look at the Baltimore Ravens with Trent Dilfer.
Think you missed the obvious sarcasm there. If we went 10-6 with Wright and McDonald, I guess we're gonna go 14-2 with Haden and Claiborne because they'll improve our offense dramatically, better than what we had in 2007.

Did Patrick Peterson help the Cardinals offense? Did Haden help the Brown's offense? Did Prince Amukamara help Eli Manning throw touchdown passes to Victor Cruz? Did Revis Island help transcend Mark Sanchez to an elite QB?

Having a good offense to keep the defense off the field looks like an argument from William Jennings Bryan compared to the thought that Mo Claiborne helps the offense through housed interceptions.

That much I'm certain of...

You're argument is piss poor, and I haven't been ignoring anything and have said twice now that both sides of the "this position shouldn't be drafted here" argument is ridiculous.

I don't understand why he can't figure out that if we're running out the clock and keeping the ball in our possession with a sustained drive, the other team's offense CAN'T SCORE. No matter what. Thus, helping out the defense.

And on the other side, just because we play good defense and force a 3 and out it doesn't mean we'll necessarily score with our offense. We had a top 10 defense this year and was 30th in scoring.

The top 10 defense you speak of was because teams ran all over us and controlled the tempo.

I get your argument of holding the ball, it's just every team did this to us last year. A hb isn't going to win us games if our QB sucks, I don't care if Richardson is ap level good. Look at Minny, Rams and Jags your argument has more holes in it then Swiss cheese.

That a position shouldn't be drafted at a certain spot is rediculous? Sorry but you fail to understand that humans don't think rationally. You think that every gm says bpa and actually does it? Bill Parcells in draft confidential basically said ur wrong.

ive heard this guy is pretty well respected, but it honestly seems like he is just saying stuff to rock the boat.

Yep. Joe Haden has 0 pick sixes in his career, and I'd say he's just as good, if not better than Claiborne. (Side note: Haden has 6 INT's in 31 games)

Again, I'm not saying Claiborne wouldn't be a huge help - he would. I'm just arguing that we need to get some playmakers on offense, and Richardson would be a hell of a start to that.

There is a belief that you don't draft a RB in the top 5. The problem is that you're agreeing with that while at the same time pushing to draft a CB in the top 5, which is another move that many believe you shouldn't do.

You have to have the best running game in the league to win the Super Bowl!

-2011-2012 New York Giants

In case you were wondering, and I know you were, the Giants were dead last in rushing yards. How about the runner up Patriots? Im glad you asked... They ranked 20th in rushing yards.

How about the year's leading rusher. Surely their team must have made a deep run, right? Well, not exactly. MJD and Jacksonville will be picking just a few spots behind the Browns.

:end sarcasm:

I just dont see why rushing yards continue to be so overrated. This isnt the same old NFL of 10-15 years ago. Premier RB's just dont have the same value that they used to, and even then you hardly saw one get drafted so highly. Im sure the Browns arent worried about where guys have been drafted in the past so much so hopefully that wont influence their decision, but Im also positive they have seen how successful the RB by committee approach has become.

Realistically I dont see how anyone wouldnt love to have either of these guys on our team. If only we could get both.

Who made that argument?

As I said before I keep waffling between these 2. I think I've finally landed firmly in the Richardson camp. If all of the top experts are right, we're in position to draft the best RB prospect since AP and Faulk. We have no running back. Claiborne will probably have a very successful career in the NFL. But passing on a prospect like Trent to add a second top ten corner just seems like a mistake. It's a luxury pick that we can't afford to make right now.

While we'd likely have the best pass defense in football with Claiborne out there, our D still wouldn't be truly elite until we shored up the run game.

I know who Colt McCoy wants them to take...
