Mychel Thompson waived

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
now playing tonight in Miami : Eyenga strikes back, Rise of the Skyenga

-- Scott said fans probably will see Eyenga on the court again this season.

“He’s working his butt off,” Scott said. “That’s something he has to continue to do.”

Probably did it to take in an extra person on a trade. but id like it if it were to bring Manny back. He earned his shot with our starting 12 last year

I think its good to give guys like Mychel chances tho....If I believe Wes Matthews was undrafted....Alot more undrafted guys too doin danage in the league. Worth a shot but after 2 months if you havent seen anything worth crap gotta let em go

The Cavs already have shown on the court that undrafted guys like Samuels, Gee, even manny harris can be as effective and contribute on par with 2nd round even post mid first round talent.
Teams are using their 2nd round picks for eurpoean this drives more quality players to places like the d league which has shot up in quality dramatically the last two years(still a long way to go)

People will soon start getting as excited about d league prospects as they do 1st and 2nd year college players.

One thing that has been detrimental to the NBA as whole has been young players expected to compete professionally with a complete lack of fundamentals. now guys have a place to go that doesnt require a passport

The depth in the NCAA and the foreign game is at an all time high. Michael Jordan truly revolutionized the game and proved that individual success can be achieved at the highest level in the NBA. The rise of players such as Kobe, LeBron, Dwight Howard, Derrick Rose, Durant, Chris Paul and even Kyrie Irving are proving that the new wave of players are very very strong. Many players get over looked or even underexposed. There are so many kids trying to be the next Michael Jordan aren't enough players like Varejao who play their specific role for their team. Wesley matthews, gee, hell even Jamario are showing that some players fight to prove they belong and fight to show that they can be great team players. The NBA draft can really spark NBA players careers, even if they go undrafted. Teams are always looking for guys who can play their role and play it well. Those are the guys teams need the most when their stars aren't there.

While there's million of kids trying to be the next superstar, there's players who can just play the game. A guy I really learned to like was Mack from Butler. The NBA draft is too small to find players now. Especially with Europeans and other countries. The game truly is expanding and I think the talent level is at an all time high. Getting guys with a chip on their shoulders from going undrafted or drafted late is excellent. I've felt like I've learned a lot from basketball over the years and I truly believe the game is expanding with the rise of the internet. It's so much easier to find the tools to become good. Confidence and that killer instinct need to be planted and created.

It all comes back to fundamentals though like you said. But as you can tell potential is being over drafted now and some guys just don't have the motor or desire.

Theres alot of talent overseas for the OVERSEAS game. International players imo wont ever be a huge trend in the legaue. Imo I dont like the practice of using a 2nd just to stash a guy overseas and maybe bring him over. Id rather use that pick here in America and get a guy that can play. Cause I know there are plenty dudes in the 2nd that arent flashy but will come in and pull a Landry Fields. Landry Fields is not a once in a decade talent. I think theres a couple in every draft to some extent they just never get a shot. Or at least if youre going overseas with a 2nd round pick at least bring him over and make him work for a roster spot. I just feel most teams waste that pick by goin overseas. I cant remember the last guy we stashed overseas then he came back and became a long standing rotational player.....I wanna count Eyenga but hes not a sure thing yet. I know around the league there are probably more examples and if anyone remembers any itd be cool to see em.

I could see how the lockout overseas play and the Brandon Jennings skip college go overseas route could possibly boost international appeal. The NBA popularity will likely rise thus creating more international stars. Seeing players like Dirk win a championship can easily inspire more people to find love for the game.

Christians starting to piss me off. You dont spend your first year in the D league get a shot do alright, then get shipped back to the D league because you didnt try hard enough in camp then decide mid season OK ima try hard again.......If I were in charge this stint were about to give him would be his last shot ever on my team. There are 1000 guys in the D league that will try stupid hard all the time just to be our 12th roster spot

I don't see Eyenga ever turning out to be special. Danny Ferry really had some type of obsession with San Antonio. Eyenga was just a guy they hoped could play athletically along side LeBron and have a Manu like ability to defend. I can see the potential, but I don't think he is going anywhere. Some international players look lost in the NBA game and some transition well. When you're from Congo and you're fast and athletic, then come to the NBA and find people faster stronger, and better than you, you need to adjust. I don't see him adjusting. If you're international you better be picked in the top 15. I don't see stud International players dropping like Tony Parker and Manu have in the past. Scouting and research are at an all time high. Medical help too for that matter.

Pat Riley really fucked up the nba, but I can teams who get lucky in the draft quickly becoming contenders with depth. Basketball is a team game still despite the all time greats. Top heavy teams aren't going to be able to afford to have strong benches. Look at Denver and Chicago. Look at New York. We need to continue to find young talent like Gee, Thompson, Semi, Tristian, hell even Sessions. Just two years of being in the top 8 in the draft and we're a top 4 team in the East and a contender. The lebron situation gave us such a great understanding of ourselves as a team. I really hope we continue to improve but ultimately lose. I know all you need to do is get in the lottery. But I really like the dimension Kyrie brings us. He will be a superstar and a fabulous team player

I think the Cavs were expecting Gibson to be back and able to play tonight and that is why they made the move. Initial reports were that he was going to give it a go, obviously things changed. I also think they want to give Eyenga a shot. I would be mildly surprised if we see Manny Harris up before we make another roster move.

People will soon start getting as excited about d league prospects as they do 1st and 2nd year college players.

Unless a player is a real malcontent or hates school, there's no reason for them to avoid college right now. If you look where the talent goes, the talent avoids the D-league. Why? The pay is poor and D-league games are pretty sloppy. If they are stressing fundamentals, it isn't showing like it does in the college or euro dev leagues. Going to college is going to get you drafted higher, and the extra money a player gets for getting drafted higher is much bigger than the $30-60K they could earn in the d-leagues.

well, we really don't know too much about how he looks in practice. Thompson likely got the start when the injuries happened to give him an extended trial in game conditions before his contract would be guaranteed. I suspect we get our first real look at Eyenga tonight, where he'll likely have to guard Wade. That's a pretty big step up from the D League.

who said anything about forgoing college. people were getting excited about Ivan Johnson last year in the d league the man has played professional almost ten years. Jeremy lyn has made a splash after a strong start in the d league and of course our own alonzo gee.

I didn't realize that today at 6pm was the deadline for guaranteeing contracts for players without guarantees (I thought it was Feb. 10).

With this in mind, I can better understand why the Cavs let Thompson go yesterday (regardless of Gibson's injury). They couldn't have held on to him to play tonight unless they were prepared to commit to him for the remaining 2/3 of the season. I follow that.

I think it'll be cool to see Eyenga and Gee with their length and athleticism defending the perimeter .vs. such a perimeter oriented team like the Heat.

Would love to see TT as well, but ... oh well.
