New TV Series to watch

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Thought Girls was back with a pretty strong debut. Adam Driver remains a maniac and one of the most compelling actors on TV.

Adam is sick and sweet, it's incredible how he goes from one extreme to just saying/doing so incredibly sweet. When Shoshanna was talking to him about Hanna being needy, etc. his response just floored me. "She is my best friend." He repulses me at times. I can't really figure out if I really like him or if it's that I dislike Hanna.

It's a one-shot serial killer story that takes place over two timelines: 1995 and present day. The basic premise of the show is that two former detectives (played by McConaughey and Harrelson) are being interviewed by two detectives in the present day about a case they worked on and (supposedly) solved in 1995. Of course, you can probably guess why two detectives would want to interview guys who worked on a case almost twenty years earlier.

That's basically all I can write without spoiling much from the premiere. It's definitely worth a watch, though. All eight episodes were written by one writer and they all have the same director (not the same guy as the writer, fyi), so the show will certainly have a consistency of vision that most shows do not. The story will end with episode eight and, while the show may be back, it will be back in the American Horror Story manner with an entirely new plot and characters (no idea if any of the actors will be back playing different roles a la AHS).

I guess maybe i was too loosely paying attention because I was all confused with the structure. Harrelson and McCounaghey are partners in 1995 when they discover that weird ass ritual killing. MM is now a drunk in present day with a mountain man look, and the killer is apparently back cause they found the wrong killer? Did i miss anything?

The issue i can see with the show is that Adam and Ray are such good actors and it doesn't seem realistic that Hannah and Adam will actually stay together long term, but because he's such a good performer it will be hard to continue the show without him. The episodes he was gone in season 2 were weak. I loved bringing back Shiri Appleby from season 2 who played the chick that adam had that horrible sexual encounter with. Thought Amy Shumer did a great job as the bitchy friend, that pregnancy bit was hilarious. I'm hoping they will bring back Elijah, and I'm pretty bummed out that Charlie won't be back(behind the scenes fights)

I liked Charlie to a point, but he wasn't an important enough character to miss. I don't get how Hannah ends up with some of these good looking guys. She's completely oblivious how to treat them. Never understood how she hooked up with the Pharmacy guy from season 1. She wasn't aware that he was a nice guy.... She tried sticking her thumb in his ass.... :chuckles:

The season premiere of Archer was fan-fucking-tastic. Funny from start to finish, and I love the new direction they're taking the show in this year. Archer Vice is basically a surefire success.

I had to watch True Detective twice, because I missed the first 5mins and was confused. The second time around, I understood. Matthew McConaughey is so good in this. He is really an underrated actor. I suppose it's mainly because of the cheesy roles he took. I feel that he and Woody work well together, but McConaughey just steals the scenes. His character is so complex and interesting.

I watched True Detective last night for the first time. I think you're dead on with the McConaughey analysis. Woody's role has got to expand into one a bit more complex or else I think they're going to waste his talent just a bit. Still, I think Woody was good in the first episode and I think there are layers to peel back.

McConaughey was just awesome. They started peeling back layers on him early and it's clear that there's a lot of character in there.. Excited to see him develop.

The end is what really caught me because there were untied parts and that ending just set the tone of where things are going. I think that having a murder/detective show on HBO is going to see wild success. Ready for Sunday already.

Archer - 9/10, only complaint is I wish it was longer. So fucking good
ChoZen - 3/10, pretty fucking bad. I'll give it 2 more episodes.
True Detective - 7/10, I enjoy slow burns as much as the next guy, but this was a little too much. The acting is great, the plot seems well thought out, so I'm definitely in.

I've made it to season 2 of The Wire. Don't anyone ruin it for me. I'm guessing that Omar doesn't give a fuck. My goodness!

Also, American Horror Story - The Coven is awful. I feel that it's been on for over a year. This is is the worst of the series.

Season two is polarizing because it pulls the focus from black gangs to importation crimes, but it is personally my favorite season. Just a very good overall season, although the first time through I really struggled with it.

I finished watching Dexter the other day. The ending was as bad as expected and I'll leave it at that.

Idk what to watch on Netflix next..

Yeah Chozen was horrible. I can't get into Archer either though. It's definitely funny, and the rampage episode makes for a great drinking game :chuckles: , but there's something about the animation that bothers me. I'm not really sure why.

I've been binge watching The Wire. I'm wrapping up season 2 tonight. It started slow because they went with a new story, but it got so good. I'm trying to pace myself because I don't want to burn through the entire series. The show cracks me up, unexpectedly-- "the duck drank himself to death."

I'm only 12 years late to the party. Better late than never.

Told you. Season two is a really slow burn, but it's a spectacular season. My personal favorite, although to be honest every season other than five is on equal footing. Five is the weakest season, but even that is better than the best seasons of most shows.

The only real downside to The Wire is that the ending is just kind of meh. I guess that was inevitable since it was never really a show with a focused story (it was always about Baltimore and the failures of the American system), but it's just hard to compare the finale of The Wire with the finales of shows like The Shield (in my opinion the best TV finale ever made so far) and Breaking Bad (second place is the first loser).

But I'm glad you liked season two. It's my favorite season. I loved Frank Sabotka. Great character and an amazing performance.

Also, I still find it incredibly weird that Dominic West (McNulty) is British. My favorite McNulty moment is in season two when he phones to hooker service and uses the fake British accent. Inception!

Edit: Goddammit I am definitely going to binge watch The Wire this week. Thanks a lot, Nicky.
