There's several factors in play, but Brown took the low road out of Pittsburgh. That drama gathered a lot of headlines, and then the national media didn't have the story line to push anymore. The next logical step for the media would have been to shove a mic in OBJs face to stir up a high profile trade. I'm sure OBJ would have had plenty to say about the plan Gettleman has for the franchise, and it wouldn't be complimentary.
Another huge factor is that the Niners had an offer on the table, and it likely wasn't their best offer. If the Niners knew Gettleman was ready to get something done, they would have moved quicker. Dorsey gets the credit for being aggressive at the right time while the Niners were tied up looking for an edge rusher.
