Oden

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Keep in mind Oden injured his hand almost a year ago. He missed the entire last summer of working on his game. He missed all the pre-season and practices with OSU. He was thrust into the lineup on Dec 2nd after his team's season had already started. I'd contend that the offseason and practices for a young player are more important than the games. The competition will no doubt be much tougher at the NBA level. But, if he can work with pro coaches all summer long his game will really blossom. His injury was a major setback for him last year...in the long run it will be a bonus b/c he developed his left hand.

Wow. How can you possibly pass on a guy who can be a shaq like player. Really? Name me 10 great centers. Then name me 10 great guards. That is why Oden goes first. Simply because finding a center that can actually play good is very rare.

Durant is not a guard. Oden doesn't look Shaq like to me. I doubt he is going to be better than Dwight Howard. This is also not a big mans league anymore. Shaq was dominate because he was so big...Oden is not going to be as big as Shaq. He is going to have a pretty good career, no doubt about it. Probably a 20/10 guy for a longggggggggg time. But Id still rather have Durant. I just think he can take over a game better. He can beat you in so many ways, ALREADY. I cant wait to see what kind of game he grows into. A KG hybrid with a great J...It's going to be nice to see, that's for sure.

I remember seeing Durant as the 2nd overall pick on nbadraft.net like a year and a half ago..

It said 6'10" 180lbs SF I was like wow this guys going to get snapped in half..well he put on like 20 lbs or so and look at what he's done. If he puts on 20 more that'd be scary.

True on the subject how this league isn't as big as it was. But still look at all the NBA championships. They all have their "Great" big on the team.

just like the pistons.. or wait.. and the spurs... oh wait again, but the great bulls teams must have had a great big..... :chuckles:

meaning in the last 16 years 6 teams have had a great big and 4 of those were shaq the other two were Hakeem.

The fact is you dont need a dominating center to win the championship anymore, its just like last night in the NCAA championship game. florida didnt have any great bigs Oden totally dominated but OSU still lost.

Dominating NBA centers aren't currently winning NBA championships because there are no dominating NBA centers playing the game today.

Tim Duncan isn't a big? David Robinson isn't a big? Ben Wallace isn't a big? Come on now. Bulls had Jordan and Pippen. They didn't really need a big.

Florida got where it was because of its 3 bigs. Just happens that Oden is better than all those guys. Detroit wasn't a contender until it got Rasheed to pair with Wallace, 2 bigs. True, the league isn't center dominated like it used to be, the rules changes have led to that, but having a dominant center is still huge, ask the Heat. I really don't know who I would take though. You'd like Durant because hes going to have the ball more and can dominate a game, but you can't go wrong with Oden either.

Oden is dumb as a box of rocks, hasn't really shown any post moves and will take longer to develope.

Which player will be the better pro? Probably Oden with the right developement just because he plays center.

So who would you take?

Still up in the air...the typical "he loves college, but it would be hard to pass on the money" argument

I like Tim Legler's point...

There's 1-2 guys on every team that is able to matchup with Greg Oden, there are 6+ guys ranging from 6'6" to 6'10" on every team. You win championships with big men, Shaq Russell Robinson Duncan all went high and all won a lot of rings..

I'll have to admit I wasn't that high on Oden before last night's game. I thought he would be a solid player but I thought he was a bit overhyped. But seeing him last night I was very impressed. He is a difference maker on basically every shot attempt. He will alter games with his inside presence on the next level. And his footwork is much better than I thought. Let's just pray he doesn't somehow land in Chicago... that would be nightmarish for us here in Cleveland. And I wanna actually root for the guy.
