**** Ohio State vs. Navy**** 9/5/09

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Offensive line sucks. Play calling is terrible. No killer instinct. Playing favorites with personnel. Some things never change I guess.

Bringing Bauserman in for no reason at all in the 2nd when the game was still very much in the balance was a horrible decision. Not kicking a FG to put the game out of reach at three possessions was a horrible decision. Tressel should be thanking his lucky stars that Navy went away from their strengths and botched that two point conversion. That embarrassing L would have been 100% on his shoulders.

At this point, I do not believe OSU will win another title under his guidance. He has his boys in prominent positions with the team and will not release them even when they are not producing. And how has an innovative offensive mind not be brought in after the NC game debacles? It's absolutely comical that Tress is still calling the plays. I'm scared to think about much of Pryor's true ability will be wasted in this unimaginative, archaic offensive scheme he employs.

Not winning a title with Pryor will be the final nail in Tressel's coffin.

I'm hoping Tressel didn't want to show USC much, and is why the play calling was questionable. If that's not the case and we go through another year of if's and could've's and should'ves, etc, then I don't believe the fans NOR OSU will stand for it. It might not be a matter of Pryor "ever" winning a title, but a matter of Tressel being gone after this year if he continues on a conservative path, even with a Pryor on the team.

I'll be optimistic and think we were looking ahead to USC, and we didn't want to show USC anything. We also didn't realize how good Navy was/is and were too confident.

I have no problem with going for it on 4th down in the 4th quarter.

If you are Ohio State and you have national championship aspirations and your OL outweighs freakin' Navy's DL by 40lbs and you can't get one freakin' yard in 2 chances you have real issues.

Tressel never runs up the score, it is good sportsmanship, but can be bad for us against better teams as we saw on Saturday. I can guarantee that if we are up against USC, we don't stop the offense.

I hope thats true and all, but it still doesnt make a lot of excuses for our defense. I know we probably didnt show certain blitz schemes, but I've gotta think we could have done better than that.

No way is Tressel gone after this year, we're supposed to be "reloading" so I could only see the murmurs start. Believe me, it will take not winning a title with Pryor for Tressel to start to come under serious scrutiny. So, in 2-3 years we'll be talking about this again and HOPEFULLY we're saying, "Man, how dumb were we to even be worried?" and not, "Well, looks like Tressel is gonna be gone."

I used to hope that was the case for several years. Hoping he didn't want to show our upcoming big name opponents too much... Then one day I woke up and realized we run the same predictable plays against the big name opponents as well.

Tressel won't be gone after this year, the man is what? 5-1 against Mich. with how many big ten titles?

Yup. Wonder how many years we'll have to put up with being embarrassed by big time OOC opponents before Tressel and his cronies are actually fired. Hopefully he proves us wrong and we start winning some big games.

Beating Michigan is great but they are freaking awful. That's not enough anymore. I bet some hardcore Buckeye fans are gonna disagree, but if you're content with just beating Michigan every year, you are not of a winning mentality.

Not everything was horrible . . .

The defense did fairly well other than some big plays
I honestly think that the receivers are going to be as good if not better than last year.
Pryor has some zip on his passes and has shown a little bit of touch on the ball
If anyone thinks that the play calling in this game is the same as what we will see next week, they're kidding themselves

That being said, the o-line is still awful, the d-line gets no pressure on the qb, and our blitz packages were wholely ineffective in the manner that they were being used.

I think that if the secondary can cut out the big mistakes, and the D-line gets some pressure next week, it will be a good game. Otherwise . . . it will be a pretty standard OSU outing.

They stunk it up against Ohio in the opener last year and people said the same thing. "We'll see a different offense against USC. They just didn't want USC to have any film on them."

I think we all know how that turned out.

If they win, it will because Barkley turns the ball over and Pryor makes some spectacular individual plays. If we are relying on offensive strategy to put us over the top, don't get your hopes up. Even if there was more depth to the play book, substandard offensive line play would most likely render it irrelevant anyway.
