On top of Steven Adams

Re: Of Steven Adams

I've mentioned several times that I think Steven Adams has what it takes to be the best center in the NBA. At worst, I think he's Omer Asik--something we could definitely use. The rumors of him coming out because of interest from a mid-round team makes me think it's OKC that wants him at #12. While I will get reamed for this, I'd take Adams at #3 and not think twice about it. He's huge, strong, athletic and is VERY coachable. I'd consider trading back with Minnesota (#3 for #9 and #26) to pick up some other assets, but wouldn't count on that happening. Like Grant has shown, you take the player you want. It's only a "reach" if the player doesn't turn out to be any good.

At this stage of the rebuild, you cant take him top 4 when he is so far away from helping you. If you want to be realistic, i would think he would spend significant time in Canton in year 1, and then work his way into the lineup year 2, and hopefully be a major role player by year 3. That is fine with the 19th pick, but not for a pick in the top 4. We need the pick to be able to help us starting in 2013.

Re: Of Steven Adams

simple solution. draft Adams, trade for kwahi leonard, double hand transplant. GAME OVER

Isn't this the same line of thinking that got us Luke Jackson instead of JR Smith, Josh Smith or Al Jefferson? It might not be popular, but my theory is to get the player you think will end up being the best of the players left when you pick. I agree that Adams isn't a likely top 4 pick in this draft, but I do think he'll be better than anyone drafted then, or later. Getting teams to trade with you isn't all that easy, either. Besides, as I mentioned, he can play NBA defense tomorrow and can bean Omer Asik-type from day 1.

Re: Of Steven Adams

Adams answers the question: What if Kendrick Perkins couldn't box out or rebound?

That said, Perkins still has value in this league.

Re: Of Steven Adams

Ouch Randolph, that post really hurt the Adams train..

Re: Of Steven Adams

He moves like Enis Kanter, but has poor shooting mechanics. in that video he did not score outside the circle under the rim. No way top five, but perhaps a 19. If I trade up to 15, I'm looking for Dieng...

Re: Of Steven Adams

If we're talking about a big guy with zero offensive skills, he's got to rebound. Adams was second to last in defensive rebounding among the top 100 centers.

Seems like the kid got a promise to enter the draft. Seems unlikely that the Cavs would offer a first round promise before the draft lottery.

Seems like he's such a risk that I'd only consider him with a second rounder, not with a first rounder.

Re: Of Steven Adams

This guy looks too much like Adam Morrison, he must be a bust :chuckles:

and yet he still managed a higher total rebound rate than Noel, Len and Zeller. His defensive rebound rate was nearly identical to Len's.

I think you're severely underrating Asik if you think that he's the floor for a raw project big man

Maybe, but you can't deny that Asik's weaknesses mirror Adams'. Asik isn't a shooter, and his hands are a reason people questioned his contract.

Where'd you see that? I thought that he had to enter the draft earlier than he wanted because of financial issues going on with his family?
