On top of Steven Adams

Re: Of Steven Adams

Where'd you see that? I thought that he had to enter the draft earlier than he wanted because of financial issues going on with his family?

That's part of the reason he entered, but I think Ford mentioned that a team with a late lottery to mid first round pick approached Adams as well and helped push him into the draft.

Re: Of Steven Adams

Maybe, but you can't deny that Asik's weaknesses mirror Adams'. Asik isn't a shooter, and his hands are a reason people questioned his contract.

There are a lot of guys with similar weaknesses. DeSagana Diop can't shoot or score either and he's known as more of a defensive presence, but there's still a big gap between him and Asik.

I just think it's silly to say that someone like Steven Adams, who is considered to be a very raw prospect, can step into the league and be a similar caliber player as Asik.

I think you are touching on something important there. Ben Wallace wasn't effective just because he was an athletic freak. He was effective because he had tremendous court awareness and knew were to get before the other guy did. Diop had a little timing, but very little awareness. Asik has awareness by the gallon. Steve Adams could be great if he has awareness. Not sure that he has it.

Re: Of Steven Adams

Steven Adams did anchor one of the best defenses in the nation. I like the asik comparison, though hope to get a little more post work out of him. He plays with his back to the basket quite a bit and seems to have a proclivity for the pushing game. I don't think he's just a defender and rebounder while getting a few put back opportunities like asik though. Adams has the potential to be a back to the basket center. Pitt clearly worked on getting him some touches, so obviously they think he has potential out of the post. I don't think he progressed like everyone was expecting, but expecting a post game out of a 19 year old is a pretty high expectation. his size and athleticism is a safe bet to translate to the nba. I think his awareness knock is another way of saying he's inexperienced. He's not jj hickson or drew gooden dumb out there.

Re: Of Steven Adams

I think Steven Adams' abilities are beyond what he showed at Pittsburgh this past season. Much like my thinking before last draft about Andre Drummond being my choice with as high as the #2 pick (and the reaming I received for that thought on various boards), I think Adams is better, both offensively and defensively, than the Pittsburgh system allowed him to be. No, I don't think he's going to be Marc Gasol coming out of the gate, but I do believe he can play NBA defense from day 1. He's certainly a better defensive option than Tyler Zeller is right now. Do I think he has advanced post moves? No. Do I think he can score at will? Absolutely not. Do I think he's got passing ability that rivals Arvydas Sabonis or Pau Gasol? Of course not. Time will tell, though. Depending on where he ends up, he could play right away, or have to sit for awhile. Either way, I bet he impresses.

Before the combine he was talked of as a project for a team with a bit of time on its hands to develop him as a long-term prospect. However, his good showing means he has probably moved into the middle of the first round.

...
There have been suggestions that some general managers were put off by his light-hearted ways in interviews, but that's unlikely to have too much effect on his chances. Charles Barkley was picked number five by Philadelphia despite his reply to general manager Pat Williams, who told the 132kg forward that he needed to get into shape. "Mr Williams, round is a shape."

White, big, strong, raw, short dark hair.

Darko.

Re: Of Steven Adams

Draftexpress has moved Adams up from 25 to 10. Probably due to his dominating performance at the combine. I think they overlooked him because of his lack of offensive skills.

I tried telling you guys he was much better than his stats/performance at Pitt would suggest (the same way I did with Andre Drummond). Give this kid an NBA organization to give him direction and a coach to get in his head, and I think he turns into the best prospect to come out of this draft. If I could only leave the draft with one player, it's Steven Adams.

Re: Of Steven Adams

Watched a Pitt game or two last season. Not impressed in the slightest. Wouldn't have even remembered the guys name 15 minutes after the game if he wasn't a prospect

So basically...you'd rather have Steven Adams than Noel, Len, Bennett, McLemore and Porter...along with at least 8-9 other guys that will likely go ahead of him.

Of Cabbages and Kings is an album by Chad and Jeremy.(a sixties group) Maybe this is something they are working on? ;)

Something about Adams reminds me of Za Za. Perhaps that is a fair comp?
