What if (highly unlikely) they signed Perk (ok stop laughing) because the Cavs are entertaining the idea of trading TT for Melo?

Get out from a big long term contract, but still bring in a buddy for LeBron if he wants to stay.

Perk (please stop laughing and listen) can be the vet big for practice and such. They roll with Zizic and Edy as our main backup Centers. Go small ball.

Love/Zizic/Edy
Melo/Green
LeBron/Crowder
JR/Korver/Cedi
IT/Rose

We might as well not even run down the court to even try to play defense.

Fan of what TT does for the team in the playoffs. However, the Durant move to the Warriors has made him useless against them. Just check the #s this past season. He can't stay on the floor. Sucks, but its true.

I don't think we trade for Melo. TT will be back. He's just at a huge disadvantage...

unlike when he was the advantage against the Warriors in years past. He didn't have to worry about Durant and Green's length. Harrison Barnes suckage wasn't a threat so he could rotate over to other guys. Durant's rebounding also makes it tougher for TT to dominate on the boards.

Thats where that move really cost us. I do like the fact we can now have Love/LeBron/Crowder as your front court against them.

Having added Crowder and Green for perimeter defense and Zizic and Travares for rim protection, I would move TT and filler for Melo and a draft pick in a heartbeat. Make it happen Altman!

First, love the enthusiasm.

But three of the four guys you mentioned have yet to show they can play a meaningful positive Conference Finals or NBA Finals minute. Two of the four have played about 20-30 games in the NBA total.

And there is no chance you get trade TT and just filler for Melo AND a meaningful draft pick from NYK

The Melo package will be built around Frye and Shump with some combo Cedi or Zizic and our own 2018 1st as the asset portion of what the Knicks get. If there is still a need for more salary match to satisfy the trade rules, guys like RJ/Kay/Edy could be involved.

Y give them Cedi? Melo has zero value.

Houston wants you to take Anderson, okc needs u to accept Kanter

Cavs could offer:

Shump, Frye, Rj, edy, Kay and our own 1st for Melo

It works on the trade machine. Every one of those contracts are non guaranteed or expiring except 1more year of shump.

They also get a 1st round pick and maybe Boston 2nd.

No way okc or Houston could offer more w less salary.

I'm telling you: trade TT to Canada. For a couple of toques and a case of 2-4.

If the best asset we offer is our 2018 1st, I definitely think NYK could consider just forcing Melo to report/expand his list or get a deal they like better. Maybe not though, but I disagree that he has zero value. His value is related to how hardline he plays his no trade clause and how willing NYK are willing to just let it ride and not move him unless they get enough.

I'd start by offering just the 2018 1st as the actual asset, but Cedi may need to be included to get the deal done.

Adding Melo:
-increases our odds at the title this year
-increases the chances LeBron re-signs in the summer
-increases the odds Wade joins after buyout(although some feel that's guaranteed already)
-consolidates our roster; currently at 17, deal would be 3 or 4 for 1

If you can do that while keeping Love, Crowder, the Nets pick, and Zicic, I think you have to consider, and I say that as someone very excited to see how Cedi develops in the NBA

Definitely not giving up Cedi for Melo. One helps solve our biggest problem since LeBron returned and the one that lack thereof got us our asses kicked in last year's Finals, perimeter defense, while the other perfectly encapsulates the losing philosophy (volume scoring) that...well, got us our asses kicked in the Finals.

And as for keeping LeBron, Gilbert isn't paying 34-year old Melo a max contract, so we can forget that. Not to mention that Cedi gives us much-needed youth on a rookie contract.

Basically I'm fine with pawning off our junk on the Knicks along with a 1st rounder for a year rental of Carmelo and that's it...anything else is errant and shortsighted.
