Open Discussion (Cavs + related issues)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Would you say that's a result of us actually being that good or the Grizz just sucking that bad/tanking? I think we do well against teams with stagnant offenses like OKC, the Grizz, and Boston but Washington just carved us up. Would like to see how we fare against a good team that moves the ball a lot because that would be the barometer for us against Golden State.

It's a good question and I don't know the answer off the top of my head because I have not watched the Grizz much this year. I do know that the Grizz have like the lowest pace in the league, though, so maybe they really aren't prepared to play at such a pace.

But, even if the Grizz suck (and they do) and they like a slower pace, it's still really good that we were able to play at such a pace in the second night of a back-to-back. That's a very good sign for us, even if the opponent is not good. It shows our energy level and athleticism has improved.

We were too old and lacking energy before the deadline. There were articles/quotes out there about how teams could run us out of the gym and we knew it.

Now, we can hang in that style much better. Even if it is against a poor team. And being able to do it on the second night of a back-to-back makes it even more impressive.

So I watched this.

Are we really DOOMED, Cap wise? I'm kinda confused by all of this.

Actually yes.

The Cavs will have a massive repeater tax driven bill of over $300M annually, ever year from here on out if we do nothing about salary.

It's why I've stated the Cavs should actually attempt to go under the tax for one year, i.e. this upcoming season. That would effectively solve the Cavs' tax situation for the next 3-4 years, or in other words, the rest of LeBron's most useful years.

The Warriors have a similar issue but driven by the potential that Klay Thompson will make All-NBA this season and thus become DPE eligible. If they don't extend him the DPE, I would imagine that would absolutely not go over well.

I know this is asking for a lot when you look over at OKC, Houston (ugh...can they and their stupid smug fanbase go the fuck away), and GSW staring back at us in the west.

But..it feels like if you could get another title this year? That would do quite a bit in terms of allowing patience for all involved in such a scenario.

That is again, asking for a lot because while I can envision it "happening" (We've seen this team do the impossible), I can't quite seem to make it happen on paper.

For starters, Who TF is that guy and why does he hate Cleveland so much? Did a serial killer from Cleveland kidnap and rape his sister or something?

IDK exactly what it would take to get under the cap for a year but this would be exactly why the Cavs would want to try to sell Lebron on the concept of running a season with Cedi, the Nets pick, and the best of the players we just acquired and do everything possible to jettison guys like TT, JR, maybe Korver for salary dumping purposes. Maybe Love goes away with a younger cheaper player coming back as an enticement for someone to take some of our dead weight.

Then once we're out from under the burden of the repeater tax there can be some re-tooling to add to the roster for Lebron's final stretch run before retirement.

No doubt this is easier said than done. I know you have to have a percentage of outgoing salaries coming back. Would it even be possible to get under the cap with Lebron staying? And if so, how decimated would the roster be?

Hey if this thing with Kawai and the Spurs blows up and is as bad as some are making it out to be...and he wants to be traded the Cavs better be all over it. You give up aything you have too...dont let him get away

Boston could offer better, hell I wouldn’t put it past Boston to offer Hayward and picks. They stabbed IT in the back so why not Hayward? I mean after all it is a business, upgrade any chance you get.

Also I’d be scared that Kawhi is a system player. And before anyone calls me stupid, KD said the same thing.

He's a Yinzer. To be fair? At times he's very unbiased, but I think his criticism of the Cavs and LeBron is a bit unfair.

LeBron is...one of the best players that have ever lived. The leverage he has is quite simple. With him? You're an NBA title contender, the ability to make money from attendance, merchandise and sponsors.

Without him? Well the Cavs are either a lottery team or just an average, run of the mill NBA franchise. One that is in a mid-market to boot (A loyal one, but yeah). That's unfortunate, but that's what we are.

So of course..much like Jordan, much like Kobe, much like anyone who would be in his position? He has a great deal of leverage over the franchise. I also think he looked at the Dion Waiters, Kyrie Irving, David Blatt things in a vacuum. Kyrie is the only one go point to and say "damn they fucked up". Even then? We don't know how that is going to play out. It could very well be that these pieces (via two trades) helped this team compete quite a bit better. The season is still ongoing.

"We don't know if the 2016 title was a fluke". It wasn't? The 2015 Cavs were pretty much LeBron playing the role of McGyver. I don't think they lose that series if Kyrie and Love were on the court. The fucking Warriors got so SCARED after getting beat up, 3-1, Draymond was on the phone crying to Durant begging him to come there. They literally had to add the 2nd best player in the world in order to have the ultimate trump card against LeBron. That's how fucked up they are.

You also can't exactly call this team a "dumpster fire" when the track record since 2004 or so doesn't bare that out. This isn't the Nets, Knicks or even Clippers. This team has found it's way to hoist an O'Brien, has 4 conference championship trophies, has 5 division titles, and 8 playoff appearances. Not to mention a player on their team win MVP twice (LeBron), ROY twice (LeBron, Kyrie), and even a COY (Mike Brown). Not to mention LeBron, Kyrie, Love, and Mo Williams all having reached the All-Star game during that time.

Yeah, even though the guy might be on point as far as future salary cap problems are concerned, otherwise he's just a stone cold hater who's fullashit.

Young kawhi was a system player. But the last 3 years he’s been the system. He can create his own shot and initiate the offense on his own. He’s not like crowder where he just stood in the corner and hit open 3s.

Well and it's pretty much how the NBA -is-.

I mean I'm sure people here would rather it be a league where teams like the 86-92 Cavs are rewarded or every team is like the Spurs.

The truth is....if you want a title or the level of success the Cavs have had since 2003? You have to dance this dance with a guy like LeBron.

"They listen too much to serving LeBron". What other options do we have, tree? What possible option could anyone in this organization have pulled to ensure that they would have a shot at a world championship ever year? Because what they've done so far has put them in the position 3 years in a row. Very few organizations can make that claim.

We miss Love's scoring greatly.

Last two losses, the opponent got into an offensive groove and we did not disrupt it.

Today it was the size of the Spurs that killed us (Pau, Aldridge), as well as Green. I think the Wizards beat us with their small lineup.

No panic for me, but still much to do.

I'm glad we don't have to play the Spurs in the playoffs.

At least Tristan played with some energy today, even if he got owned on defense.
