Peyton Hillis is Jason Bourne

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Peyton Hillis contract saga

I happened to catch the presser today with Shurmur. Watched it with my Mom. She's a HUGE Cavs fan and always will be until the end. She's sick about this lockout. Anyway, she knows a little about football and does watch some games but she has never really never got into it. She went on and on and on AND on and on about Shurmur. She could not believe how much a baby the guy seems to be and how arrogant he seems to be. She said she has never seen a head coach seem so sensitive to questions and even snap back like he did. She told me she can't believe he is the head coach and wondered why the Browns would hire him.

I agreed with her.

Re: Peyton Hillis contract saga

If we lose to the Rams, boys, all bets are off ...

Re: Peyton Hillis contract saga

While there has always been smoke to this false injury fire, I'd like to point out that hamstring injuries always take several weeks to heal. If the city scapegoats Hillis for the unwatchable season of offense, he might be at fault for sandbagging the season for a contract or he might legitimately be too injured to play. Either way, all of this conjecture will assure that he leaves.

So if a white power back doesn't play well ever again after his one monster season, should his nickname become White Icky?

Because regular "cool starry bra" is just not enough to wake people up after that.

Re: Peyton Hillis contract saga

Shurmur does seem like a massive douche/pussy.

I just can't comprehend why he would fake an injury. He has to play, and play good if he wants a big pay day. If he goes to free agency after a season where he didn't play at all, why the hell would someone throw a ton of money at him? If he gets the reputation that he is faking an injury, why the hell would someone want to sign him?

I just don't buy into the fact that he is faking injuries. I think this is a classic case of Cleveland media and fans blowing things way out of proportion. Is this situation a very shitty one? Obviously. But I can't see the faking injuries. Just no logical explanation for it.

i totally agree with this, it just doesnt make sense for him to fake an injury during a contract year. that said it totally makes sense for the browns to keep him on the bench

From the moment Peyton Hillis suffered his first training camp injury, Twitter exploded with references to the Madden Curse. As Hillis' problems have mounted, so have the references to the supposed curse. Now Hillis' season is sunk, his value has taken a hit, and the notion of the curse has been reinforced. "If you want to blame Madden Football, blame Madden Football," said Sandy Sandoval, EA Sports' senior director of athlete relations. "It is what it is." What it is, is glaring.

Now, the Browns would like to bring back Hillis at some point this season, but nobody expects him to return to Cleveland after this season. So what would be a logical landing spot for Hillis? How about Dallas, where Cowboys owner Jerry Jones likes Arkansas players. Jones could match Hillis with his former Arkansas teammate Felix Jones and, with DeMarco Murray, give the Cowboys one of the deepest and most talented backfields in the league. Hillis won't be returning to Cleveland or joining his former Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels in St. Louis. Aside from those places, Dallas makes as much sense as any other potential landing spot.

Hillis for the Cowboys 1st take it or leave it...

Re: Peyton Hillis contract saga

Hillis says he wants to stay in Cleveland
By Jamison Hensley
A month ago, there were reports that Peyton Hillis was probably playing his last games with the Browns. He doesn't want that to be the case.

Even though the Browns called off contract talks weeks ago, Hillis made it clear that he wants to stay with the Browns as he gets closer to becoming an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

"We've got five more games," Hillis said, via the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "I have to get ready to produce and help this team win, and that's my sole focus. This is where I want to be."

Sources told the Plain Dealer in early November that the Browns "are near the end of their rope" with Hillis and are prepared to let him walk in free agency.

Hillis, though, believes he has a future with the Browns. "I love Cleveland," he said. "I know there's been some questions there, but I've always been a Clevelander in my heart. I enjoy this place and I enjoy this team and I hope to be here."

In a conference call with Baltimore reporters, Hillis addressed other issues:
On whether he still hopes to resume contract talks and return to Cleveland after this season: “Most definitely. As far as the contract standpoint goes, I really haven’t thought about it, especially in a long time -- especially since I haven’t been producing, playing, figuring I’ve just been worried and working on getting back in there playing and stuff like that. And even the contract talks haven’t even crossed my mind, either.”
On his thoughts of the Yahoo! Sports article that reported eight veterans summoned Hillis into a meeting room for an intervention-style, air-clearing session designed to restore his focus: “You know, relationship is fine. It never was a distraction. I just think the guys got tired of everybody asking them about me, so they just wanted to confront me about it since they’re my teammates and my friends. And they just wanted to put the positive foot forward.”

I know that he's been kind of a bother this year, but if the price is right I absolutely want to resign him to a contract. It's rare that someone actually wants to play in Cleveland.

Re: Peyton Hillis contract saga

I want to bring him back as well but if we cant get a new contract made with him, franchise tag him and trade him on draft day

The price for franchising a RB is pretty high, I think it's roughly 8 million to do so. I'm not sure anyone is going to want to pay him that after the season he's had thus far.

Speaking of franchise tags, I was listening to 92.3 (not for enjoyment or anything, I applied for a job there) and some numbskull called in from Baltimore talking shit. Anyway one of his biggest "insults" was that the Browns franchised a kicker. He then went on to say, "I don't know if anyone in the history of the NFL has franchised a kicker, it's pathetic."

The worst part, the hosts agreed with him. I think it was the Fox and the Bull, anyway they were agreeing with this schmuck. It was driving me nuts for 2 reasons, first it's Dawson, second I can think of 2 franchised kickers in the last 2 years from teams other than the Browns (Reed and Mare). I honestly can't believe the quality of sports talk we have in this town.
