Re: NBA Rumors: Phoenix Suns Interested in Alonzo Gee

Chances of finding anyone in those last 3 picks who will match the production Gee is giving us now historically is very slim.

Kyle Lowry, Rudy fernandez, Delonte West, Serge Ibaka , nernad kirstic. thats 5 in the last tens right there at the 24 spot.

Anyways . it is not about Gee's production but how he produces. He has a wicked quick first step and can drive to the basket like a big man from the guard position.

Yes Gee can be contained but his value is needing to be contained.

Defensively he did pretty well overall . just had a few lapses towards the end of the season which coincided with the team defense going down the drain due to all the injuries.

Im pretty confident that Gee will add a pull jumper to his arsenal and increase his effectiveness. however if the Cavs lose him they could always get someone like Danny or Gerald Green or take a look at someone like Chris Wright who has a similar game

Tornicade: Chris Wright University of Dayton? Ya I see him as a similar Gee and would only have to pay him league minimum most likely. Dude can jump out the gym.

I think that's the right approach. If we don't pay Alonzo, it's not because we think we can replace him via free-agency; it's because we don't want to commit that much money to him and we would rather use the roster spot and play time to develop someone else.

Id even overpay to keep Gee, he has shown improvement over the last years. He seems to work hard, plays decent defense and still has quite a bit of potential on offense. Front-loaded 15m/3y would be fine with me

Nice to see nobody has voted for the last option yet.

If they let everyone that's as good or worse of a player than Gee walk, we wouldn't have 5 guys on this team.

And then end up letting them go just like Gee? Stupid strategy if you ask me.

Developing a 2nd rounder is what the D-League is for. Unless we draft two wings and two shooting guards, there will be plenty of developmental minutes on this team for everyone. Unless you think Casspi still needs time to develop?

Irving , Thompson and whoever they draft this year. most likely will be making around ten million a year 4 or 5 years down the road
Thats at least 50% of the salary going to 3 starters.

Boston and several other teams had to let their role players go for primarily salary cap reasons.

Grant will asses gees worth and thats all he will get. if someone makes a better offer than Grants assesement. He will go on his way and the Cavs will be okay.

Once he became a starter confronted by other starters his production sagged, particularly on defense.

The only way I'd trade Gee to the Suns is if we got Gortat back, which will NEVER happen. Would be glad to have Gee stay in Cleveland along with Kyrie.

Isiah Thomas agrees with you.

The NBADL is still more of a toy than a developmental tool.

What do you think we could get if we tried to trade Casspi, or Gee, Manny, Sloan, Samuels, Harangody, or Erden for that matter?

Do you think there's a team in the league that would trade us a pick in the top-34 of the 2012 draft in exchange for one of those players signed to an extension?

I don't.

That tells me we have 4 picks in this draft that are presently more valuable than at least 7 players we have on the roster who other than Casspi were all late second rounders or undrafted.

Gee may be the "cream" of that crop, but that doesn't mean we should over pay him at this point in the re-build when we still have plenty of minutes to throw around to develop players.

Of course it all depends how the draft goes, and how much Gee wants to stick around. He's not the kind of player you get in to a bidding war over. You make a fair offer, and if he wants to go, he'll go.

Casspi never played DLeague and was in fact picked 23 overall in a draft where the bulk of the lottery were guards. Blake griffin was number one and Hasheem Thabeet was number 2...

I do think pretty much any team would trade number 34 over all for Gee, it is a risk equation.. How much better than gee is that guy likely to be, and Gee has already achieved his level. I think the next most valued player in that mix is Samardo, and I don't think he would garner 34 in this draft..

All that said, I think we are on the same page. No reason to go crazy, but a fair offer to Gee will be a good idea. I think boobies contract is very fair, and gee with that contract is very tradeable.

I did say "other than Casspi" ... but I don't think he's worth a top-34 pick right now, either. Heck, in a swap of late first round disappointments, it was the Kings that sweetened the pot with a protected first rounder - which pegs his value somewhere around "salary filler".

I don't think we'll go as high as we offered Gibson to keep Alonzo as the economic and team realities are very different.
