It's excessively boring how players talk about their teammates to the media. It's nothing but clichés about how said teammate does all the right things, is a hard worker, looks great in practice, etc. It's an understood part of the relationship between athletes and the media. Well, let's give it up to Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger for not offering up the same platitudes. When asked what he expects from rookie running back Le'Veon Bell in his NFL debut this Sunday, Roethlisberger didn't spout off answers he didn't have.
"Honestly, I have no idea with him," Roethlisberger said of Bell in a Tuesday radio interview. "You can't get a read on him. One day, he's practicing, one day, he's not; one day, he's going hard, the next day, he's not. I wish I could.
"If he was a guy like Heath Miller that you knew was busting his butt every day to get back there ... Le'Veon is a rookie, I don't know him quite well enough yet. But if he can come back and help us, we'll take him."
Fantasy Analysis:
That Heath Miller reference sounds like a thinly veiled shot at Bell's work ethic. Bell will play this weekend against the Vikings in London. Whether he starts and how much he plays will be decided by how he practices. He is coming back from a sprained foot and should be the Steelers' lead running back before long. He has RB2 upside, but it sounds like he needs to do a little trust-building with Big Ben first.
