Potential destinations for Ramon Sessions

The Lakers are well aware that they need scoring and point guard help, thus their continued interest in Minnesota's Michael Beasley and Cleveland's Ramon Sessions.

SB Nation

Based on the rumors over the last couple hours... what about this for a three-way trade:

Minnesota In: Sacramento 2012 1st, Hornets 2012 2nd, Orlando 2013 2nd
Minnesota out: Michael Beasley

Why: The Wolves turned down a deal for a 1st for Beasley from the Lakers, but that deal included them taking back a player. This deal has them taking back no players, getting a 1st, a very high 2012 2nd, and another 2nd next year. Hard to see them getting a better deal.

Lakers in: Ramon Sessions, Michael Beasley, Cavs 2012 2nd, Orl 2014 2nd
Lakers out: Lakers 2012 1st, Dallas 2012 1st, Walton, cash

Why: The Lakers want Beasley and Sessions, but haven't been able to work out a deal that they like. This deal nets them two second rounders, and relieves them of Walton... one of the 2nd rounders is a high 2012 in a deep draft. Plus getting BOTH of these players will make them relevant during the playoffs this season.

Cavs in: Dallas 2012 1st, Lakers 2012 1st, Walton, cash from Lakers
Cavs out: Sessions, Sac 2012 1st, own 2012 2nd, Char 2012 2nd, Orl 2013 & 2014 2nd rounders

Why: Cavaliers gain 2 1st round picks for 2012, so they can acquire the players they really want. Cavs give up four second round picks and a highly protected sacramento 1st, but with the additional two firsts this year, the Cavs will have no use for two more rookies from the second round this year, and they have multiple 1st rounders after this year, so the Orlando 2nd rounders are well spent. The suckiest part of this trade is Walton, but with the money received from the Lakers, the Cavaliers add-in whatever they need to, to buy-out Walton... or they just waive him.

Thats alot of trade assets going out for what most like would be two picks at no higher than 20th.

This trade is so awful. I just don't know where to begin.

The Cavs aren't giving up Charlotte's 2nd, it's New Orleans'. Ramon Sessions by himself is worth a first round pick this year from a playoff team. So you're really giving up another T16 pick. So can you tell me why giving up two firsts (Sessions and the Sac pick), two high second round picks (currently they are #32 and #38), and presumably two high second round picks from Orlando (Dwight is gone) for two draft picks in the 20s, a shitty player, and money? You can't just snap your fingers and waive somebody by the way. Taking Walton off of LAL's hands saves them his salary next year and luxury tax hit. That alone is worth something.

The Dallas pick is T20 protected. The two second round picks are easily worth that alone. You are giving up waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much. Just terrible man.

The Cavs don't need 3 first round picks this year. I would rather some of these picks be moved for future picks (much like the Cavs did last year for Orlando's two second rounders) or stockpiled and offered up for a big time player in a couple years.

The Charlotte Bobcats and the New Orleans Hornets. Look'em up. They're real.

You are assuming Dwight will be gone... I'm not.

The purpose of getting those two 1sts is so the Cavaliers will have a better shot at moving higher in the draft this year... not so they can pick 3 players.

Sessions is not worth a 1st... he is worth what a team will pay for him. If that is two 1st rounders, then that is what he's worth. If that is worth a 2nd... that is what he is worth. As it stands, no team has offered a 1st (that we're aware of).

Dallas is projected to finish in the top 10. However, even if they don't the pick can still be used the same way.... OR give Minny the Dallas pick and we keep the Sacramento pick. Works either way. Only reason for exchanging Sac for Dallas pick is to have a shot at an extra pick this year - we know Sacramento's pick will be within top-14.

That trade is just straight up terrible, and there's no getting around that. I wouldn't do this trade even if we kept all four 2nd rounders and it was just Sessions and the 2012 Sac 1st for the 2012 Dallas 1st, 2012 Lakers 1st, Walton, and cash. The 2012 Sac 1st is heavily protected, but it's still going to be a much better pick than the 2012 Dallas 1st or the 2012 Lakers 1st. The 2012 Sac 1st is worth more than the 2012 Dallas 1st and 2012 Lakers 1st combined alone because of it possibly being as good as the 11th pick in the draft. Even at the 16th pick, it's still worth more than 2 picks in the 20s. And now we're giving up Sessions and taking on a piece of shit player for a salary dump? Even with this trade, it would be like we're giving up an asset that could return a 1st, and then we're heavily downgrading a pick to two 1sts that have a much less of a chance at getting a great player than the Sac pick. On top of this, we're taking on salary and hurting our flexibility. Not to mention, if we do your trade, we throw out 4 more 2nd rounders even though we're heavily losing out before we even trade those picks.

I'm rolling here... the Cavs need to hold tight and it's 1st rounder or bust for Sessions. The Lakers have no bargaining power here. Kobe and co arent getting any younger, and they're desperate for even a serviceable PG, so you squeeze em.

Personally, I'd rather have Marvin Williams and a 1st because that's 2 assets for one, but a 1st is a must.

Rysen/Heath/whatever...

Lakers still look to be the most likely destination...and a possible 3-way with either Atlanta, Charlotte, Memphis or Portland (With Cavs & Lakers) can easily be seen as something that would work for all teams involved.

I decided it wasn't a reputable source without ever clicking the link because he described Sessions as "...great weapon from three-point range, hitting on 42.6 percent on his attempts this year."

That statement hasn't necessarily been disproved this season. He has been averaging about 1.5 3s per game, and he's been making a lot of them. I think it's pretty clear that Sessions' 3 point shooting ability has IMMENSELY improved this offseason. Even if he slips into the 30s this season or next season in 3p%, it's still a massive improvement to where he was before. He's at least a good weapon from the 3 line this season.

I'd pull the Trigger on a Mayo for Sessions deal. He is a classic "change of scenery" guy. His first 164 games, he averaged 18 PPG, 4 RPG, 3 APG, .448 FG%, .384 3P%. He's only 24 years old. He's a wing player that can score. He doesn't make a ton of money, although he is a restricted free agent after this season. Most of all, we have a coach who can get the most out of players. He's made Alonzo Gee better, he's made Boobie Gibson better, you could even argue that he's made Ramon Sessions better. Why not take this chance if the offer is indeed there? It seems like exactly the type of risk the Cavaliers need to take.

I mean, people are pitching guys like Wes Matthews and Evan Turner, who comp pretty well with Mayo. I guess I dont see why a team like the Cavs, absolutely starved for help on the wing, wouldnt take a hard look at this kind of guy. Compared to what Eric Gordon is going to get paid despite his injury history, is Mayo really such an awful option?
