Pryor eligible for the supplemental draft but suspended for the first 5 games

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I don't like how the NFL is going to let NCAA rules govern their game. I think Pryor is a tool, but I still don't see how they can suspend a guy for 5 games for something that has NOTHING to do with the NFL.

It would be like going to college but having a detention because you got one on the last day of high school. Seems so strange.

Not really. Its like getting kicked out of high school for yelling at a teacher and having a college except you on only a probationary period and limit your classes until the probation is over and your prove yourself. Sure its not illegal to yell at a teacher, but its against the school rules and any other school you go to might want you to prove you learned your lesson about following rules.

What about Caleb King? He flunked out of college and is eligible for the draft. Isn't that setting a bad precedence?

Why? Football already has a 3 year rule to be eligible, they have morality clauses, random drug tests, etc. How is it a big leap that the NFL requires that you follow the rules of the current league you play for or you are subject to penalties at the professional level. If you get busted for drugs, you are subject to NFL scrutiny. How does driving drunk have anything to do with the ability to catch a ball. it doesnt, but I am not against some form of morality governed into the CBA, breaking NCAA rules then turning pro is just an extension of current morality clauses already in the CBA.

We're not talking about drugs or drunk driving, and if a case like that was used to break the mold of allowing amateurism follow people into the professional world, I'd probably have less of a problem with it.

I feel like this is a case of a bit too much government, too much oversight.

The stock of Pryor should be affected by his actions, not a ruling.

And this is coming from a generally liberal guy.

Difference is King was actually considered ineligible. The precedence that the NFL is trying to avoid is players going pro before they are ineligible. By definition, Pryor should have to wait until 2012 because he wasnt technically ineligible.

Like I have said, its a good compromise.

It basically is because Pryor could have played this year and didnt declare for the normal draft. The eligibility rules for the supplemental draft is Pryor couldnt be eligible, thus the NFL decided to carry over the suspension but let him into the draft.

My understanding is the NFLPA was prepared to fight the Pryor suspension, but the QB's camp chose to accept the penalty. ...

Lots of good comments on Twitter today.

this could boost jersey sales

Why are you even bothering?

That's still not their suspension to carry. That's why I think it's stupid. That's all.

Going back to 1999, w/the exception of Rubin, Vickers, hell I'll even throw in Brandon McDonald, Harrison and Andra Davis, all of our picks have been a joke in the 5-6th rounds. you're telling me you wouldn't give up a 5th or 6th for a chance at Pryor?

that's exactly what I am saying...

This is just a bizarre ruling. So will this apply to coaches next?

Big Ben allegedly rapes two different women = 4 games.

Pryor gets extra benefits at Ohio State = 5 games.
