Q Arena Renovations (scoreboard, court, ...) and In-Game Experience

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I also noticed, they didn't drop those parachutes with shirts. They usually do that at the second half. Are they abandoning that?

Agreed on all accounts about the game. However, the one thing that I really missed during the game were the individual player stats on Humongotron. Like Phills said, I heard the announcement for Carmelo's fouls, but didn't really have anywhere to look. I knew that the individual stats were displayed on the corner boards, but when you sit as high as I did, there are quite a few obstacles in the way of the boards.

Here's my takeaway and I agree with a couple others.

1. The sound system does need tinkered with. Some announcements were very hard to hear.
2. Just out of curiosity, I was kind of disappointed that they missed Johnny Football during the celeb cam. He was sitting right next to Haden and that coulda done them both at the same time. Would he have been cheered/booed/???
3. I couldn't find the player foul count either. The stats in the corner scoreboards changed too frequently for me so I could never really tell what was going on. It looked as if the corner scoreboards were "bigger" this year.
4. The scene outside seemed to have more energy than the 07 Finals. It was just unreal how many people were around. We spent some time on E 4th and it was a zoo.

This was the view from my seat.

From being at the game here is my take on the technology...

Board is HUGE! I mean absolutely gigantic. I've never seen anything like it. Picture quality is absurdly good. They had an issue at halftime thru the 3rd Q where the bottom right quadrant was blacked out. Not sure if it was on the other 3 sides but the side I was on was inoperable in that area. They fixed it a bit and the glitch moved to the bottom left and only took a small space, nothing that was important.

The floor graphics are impressive. Really fun to watch.

The sound system had a lot of trouble. I don't know what the story was but the PA and any in game entertainment sounded muffled and was extremely hard to understand.

There is information all over the place but no where are players fouls displayed. I thought I heard Carmelo had 5 fouls midway thru the 4th quarter but I couldn't confirm it at the game because no where is that stat displayed.

Anyone else at the game have comments?
Pretty much the exact feedback on my end.

I didn't know if it was where I was sitting in the upper deck, but most of the sound was pretty awful. I couldn't hear most of the announcements in the pregame, the starting lineups, or on the intro video. Music was hit or miss as well.

The board was amazing, simply put.

My biggest gripe was (like you said) not seeing the stats... Pretty much anywhere. I had no idea what LeBron was shooting, # of personal fouls, etc.

That said, the in-game video entertainment was fantastic. They must have overhauled their video content department because the videos and in-game content is no longer G-rated crap (e.g. "Players read nice tweets," the intro video, and purposely panning to Bieber multiple times for boo-ing purposes)

I did love how they played the nWo music when introducing the other team. That was a great touch.

Amazing, amazing night and one of the best sports experiences of my life, even with the loss.

As far as the new tech goes, I agree with most everyone here.

1) The floor projection graphics were unbelievable. So good. I don't know how many noticed, but did you see that after each player was announced, a flaming Sword C with their number literally followed them around the court? Like it was tracked to them, kinda like you see on SportsCenter replay breakdowns. Really impressive.

2) We were on the sidelines in Loudville, so we had the best possible view of the Humongotron. It is beyond huge. Really awesome. At that height, it's as big as the court, and sometimes I caught myself accidentally watching the action on there instead of the live court because it was about the same actual size.

3) You're right, the players fouls were not displayed anywhere. I'd recommend that they kill the players' FG% with that because they already had FGM/FGA right next to it. Redundant stats. Other than that, extremely high quality picture everywhere.

4) Yeah, the sound wasn't as awesome as all the hype said it would be. Sounds like it needs tweaking.

5) The Kendrick Lamar show was amazing. Great set, played for about half an hour, and still got into the Q right on time.

The stats were on those additional triangular screens that were installed around the building by the loudville. I think 2 screens side by side on each corner.
The Boards in the corners displayed the 5 on the floor their points, rebs, ast, turnovers then toggled over to FGM-A, FTM-A, 3FGM-A but they never had a column for players fouls.

And EVERYONE cracked up when they zoomed to Geraldo Rivera. Everyone recognized him, but they all probably said what I said to my friend... "Haha... Geraldo? I thought he was dead?"

Funny story about Geraldo. About 30 mins before tip off I was in the bathroom across from the team shop and who's standing there waiting for a stall but Geraldo Rivera. There he is, this creepy old guy with a crazy mustache and wild hair waiting for the stall to open up so he can drop a deuce. The guys I was standing next to at the urinal kept on saying "Hey it's JERRY SPRINGER!" then he and others started to chant "JER-RY SPRING-ER! Clap-Clap, Clap-Clap-Clap!" over and over again. One dude even went up to Geraldo and took a selfie with him. So funny

The "players reading tweets" was hilarious. And it sure seemed from the players reactions that it was their first time reading/seeing that tweet too. "Andy, I want to rent a one room apartment in your hair." "Dellavadova- I want to make a Deli sandwich with you" Can someone recall the others?

Another stat on the big screen I think the crowd can survive without.... "The Diff". The "diff" was the point difference between the team's scores. If NY was up 48-45, "The Diff" was -3. Seriously? Joe Commoner can't figure out the score difference? And if he can't, does it even matter if he is told what the difference is? Would he understand if you explained it to him?

lol lol lol.... "It's Jerry Springer!...".... that is freakin' funny. I love it.

But hey, the lady he was with looked decent enough, so he's got that going for himself.

Kind of embarrassed I know this but Geraldo's wife is from Cleveland.

The Diff has been on the scoreboard there for almost 10 years. They actually shrunk it down on the new format. I had to hunt for it. It used to be the biggest on the screen.

And for what it's worth, I kinda like the Diff. I am not math challenged and I can do simple subtraction just like everyone else here. But when I wanna focus my entire attention on the game, being able to look at one single number that give me all the information I need to know about the score, I don't see why that's a problem.

No problem. Glad it is there to help you.
Guess for me it is some little quirk you notice, and your eye keeps going back to it, even if you don't want to look. As others said, I'd rather the player game stats be more visible at a glance. Third quarter, a starter gets a foul, I want a quick glance to see how many he's got. I wanna know how many team turnovers have occured. Guess I'm more used to seeing a 71-67 score and knowing its basically a 2 possesion difference

The one to kyrie was that she loves his smile and he needs to smile more on the court. One to joe harris was that he's going to be the teams mvp ,then put #myjoey. Lebrons was "while you #striveforgreatness, Im striving to get off my couch". Kevin's loves was something stupid like "I love you kevin, get it?" And then kevin gave a blank look into the camera lol

Right... right. Tho wasn't the one to Joe Harris from his Grandma?

Yeah, and the KLove was something like "Kevin Love I love you! Get it?" And he looks in the camera like "Sheesh, how many times have I heard THAT line....."

You can find team stats on the displays in the lower corners of the lower bowl. Like above player tunnels and then same zone on eh opposite side. Team rebounds, assists, turnovers, steals, blocks, etc.
