Burger King wants to team up with McDonalds to create McWhopper

NEW YORK (AP) — This probably isn't what the United Nations had in mind when it established the International Day of Peace: Burger King is asking McDonald's to join forces to create a "McWhopper."

In full-page newspaper ads Wednesday, Burger King said it's calling for a truce with McDonald's so that they can create a mashup of their most famous burgers — the Big Mac and the Whopper. Burger King says it wants to serve the concoction for a single day at a popup location in Atlanta, a midway point between the headquarters of the two chains.

Burger King is tying the publicity stunt to a nonprofit called Peace One Day, which says it promotes Peace Day. The United Nations created the International Day of Peace in 1981 to coincide with its annual opening session in September. It then designated Sept. 21 as the annual "day of non-violence and cease-fire" in 2001.

I figured that Burger King trying to turn a day of peace into a publicity stunt fits right in in a thread that is immediately trying to turn a double murder not even a few hours old into a prop for one's gun control position.

I was gonna lash out at the political pining already occurring in this thread, but I figured someone would just be like, "What do you want us to say?! Let's at least have a DISCUSSION!" ie, by discussion meaning yell at each other about gun control for the next week or so until this thread fades into oblivion.

I think far more random shootings would occur over dumb things. Like road rage would be a murder now instead of cars being wrecked.

Don't want to delve into this much, but I agree. Not a statement on gun control, but rather a statement on how people grow up to act impulsively and without conscience more in society now. Get mad -> kill someone...

Not to mention the fact that if you think cops are on edge now, could you imagine what would happen if they thought everyone potentially had a gun on them?

Lets all agree to take the political stance in another thread and keep updates of the chase in this one.

This is a sickening tragedy for both sides of the gun control issue and we can make a separate thread to debate that issue if we would like.

Fear.

It doesn't happen now. If you don't have the temper to own a defense weapon (like David has said here before) then you're the problem.

I carry daily and it's a non issue.

Protect yourself or be fearful.

Dude took a video on his phone while he shot them and posted it to twitter. Disgusting.

This just got reported in the UK...eyes of the world will be on this. Madness

Politically, all arguments have been regurgitated ad nauseam on both sides every time something like this happens.

No sense in rehashing which is what I'm guilty of, myself.

For me and my views, it's just hard to watch this shit keep happening with little to no reform and not say anything about it.

But we will all agree to disagree while agreeing that this debate will probably get us nowhere.

Suspect offed himself.

I do think it's relevant, though. This isn't to imply it's the right time to discuss it, but it does need to be discussed.

Every time a tragedy occurs, there needs to be a conversation on how to prevent it from happening again. If we ignore it, we will never be prepared for it the next time it occurs.

This applies not just to murders but to natural disasters, wars, etc.

I, for one, am heartbroken by what happened to this news team and I want to make sure it's less likely to happen again anytime soon.

Just my two cents.

I agree it's a tragedy, especially for the family of the victims.

But delaying the political debate when these issues occur is the problem. Kicking the can down the road in an effort to not piss people off is why we never actually attempt to solve this problem.
