Has anyone watched it yet? I’m about to watch the first episode shortly. Will report back. I’m nervous Amazon is going to butcher middle earth.

Nope. Waiting to hear more reports first.

I watched it. I thought it was alright. Some scenes/storylines I'm enjoying so far, but others just seem like a waste of time so far.

I am enjoying parts but it is jumping around a lot right now. Like Ohio said, some don't feel necessary at this stage. I need to talk with my fiend, who's a die hard Tolkien guy, to see how he feels about it.

Did the show have the same Young Adult vibe as the trailers?

Galadriel and Elrond are younger for sure, but everyone else for the most part are fine. Those are pretty good acting wise as well. Glad to see Gil-Galad finally get some time to shine.

I’ll be watching episode later, but I liked the first episode, though it was a little all over the place. It looks great.

This is a tough one to answer. I'd say, not exactly (despite the ages of many actors being young adults), but it's also not as dark/grimey as LOTR either.

It's definitely more "friendly" but not nearly as bad as that god awful Super Bowl promo portrayed. Kind of similar to The Hobbit in this sense.

Also with the different plotlines you're getting different vibes, too. It's only two episodes so far, but if you sliced the plotlines in half and focused on the good stuff, I'd think very highly of it. As it stands now, it's been alright and enough to keep me watching. But we'll see for how long...hopefully they figured it out along the way.

I would say it’s more “light” because we’re dealing with the second age when the Elves still had a strong influence.

Liked it a lot and will re-watch later tonight. It’s a different color pallete and vibe than HOTD but that is fine. World behind the production value of Wheel of Time

I wish they used the same color pallette and camera angles as the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies. It just feels too cookie cutter and not in the same universe as the movies.

I rewatched it and I think the visuals are off. There just seems to be no pop to images. I also think the characters get washed out into the backgrounds. Something about the show doesn't keep my attention visually. It's weird how much I have to force myself to pay attention. I don't think there is anything wrong with the storyline or dialogue.

As a mild Tolkien zealot I feel like I'll end up hate -watching it at some point. While I roll my eyes a little at the attempts at inclusiveness-
I think a spinoff focusing on the the men/people/creatures of the East (including how the men of the West were exploitive of them), could both be inclusive and still be true to the story, without trying to shoehorn in race-
that in and of itself would never keep me from watching it; they need to stay true to the characters and the story lines, don't make up shit that contradicts the later story. I have total and complete doubt the writers of this will.

The first 2 episodes were pretty solid, 7.5/10ish for me. Acting was consistently good throughout, the world is both gorgeous and believable. Most of it works well and left me wanting to see more.

It's impossible not to compare it to the LotR films, but I think it's making a valiant effort so far to capture that tone and world even if it invariably comes up short in the eyes of most.

I say this as someone who read The Hobbit, LotR and parts of The Silmarillion and holds the LotR films near the top of my GOAT list. I saw a couple of the trailers for RoP beforehand, but otherwise went in blind.

btw, there is absolutely zero hint of "young adult vibe" so far in this show. It's not a thing.

I agree very much with your spoiler, by the way. I always considered
the downfall of Numenor.
to be the central story of the Second Age, but it doesn't seem like the show runners agree. Tons of great story potential there, but they apparently decided to make Galadriel the central character for...reasons.

Galadriel seems a Strong Independent Woman®, so perhaps that is enough of a reason.

Galadriel seems a Strong Independent Woman®, so I suppose it has that going for it.
I think it’s a little early to say that
will not be one of the central storylines to the entire series.

It will be introduced in episode three and featured heavily from that point on.
