Roberto Alomar BANNED from MLB

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So I am not going to try top defend Robbie, and 2014 wasn't that long ago, but the question to me is where does it stop when it comes to the hall and retired numbers and ... In the workplace, for MLB, I get it completely. He is their employee and it is their discretion and rightfully so.

But once you start looking backwards and applying standards from today to a different era ... then you bump up against almost anyone that has a retired number or HOF in the past - they all were part of an enhanced substance era in one form or another. They played during segregation, and by todays standards that makes them complicit and on and on.

Do not want this to be political, it is just a real question when you hear of teams taking down retired numbers, HOF possibly rescinding status. Where does the line get drawn.
I have no idea what actually occurred with Robbie, but let's draw some very clear lines.

If you're a rapist, I don't care how long it takes for that information to come out, organizations have a right to say "Oh shit, we don't want to be pushing this guy forward, or memorializing him as a model individual." Whether that's retired numbers, team hall of fame or ring of honor things, or the MLB HOF. Certain things, like murder or rape don't have a statute of limitations for me.

Um participation in a college basketball brawl, arguably one of the fiercest ones on record is not that bad.. He was a participant, that is all.

He clocked a dude in the head from behind (more than once). Definitely says something about his character. But you are more than welcome to your opinion.

Not only that, but there are a ton of guys in the HoF that were not great guys outside of baseball... you can make quite a list.

He was a kid when he did that. Tough standard to be honest. Most of us wouldnt pass our own ethics test if we were famous at 20. I know i did a ton of stupid shit at 20.

And this is to defend Winnfield, who sucker punched a guy in a brawl in college. I have no idea what Roberto did, not about to defend a rapist at any age...and he was 50 when he did whatever he did to get himself banned...so I am guessing it will be bad.

And for the record, Winnfield never hit Witte, he hit another guy that was never hospitalized like Witte. Not saying its a good look, but an on court fight in basketball is not in the same realm as a major sexual assault. And Roberto doesnt get banned for an ass grab, so its bad.

And FWIW (which is about 8 cents) Dave Winfield was super nice to a kid in 1988, the only one to autograph my program..

I know he didn't hit Witte and I know it's definitely not in the same realm as sexual assualt but it's still a character flaw being pussy enough to hit someone from behind like that and just another in a long line of not so great characters in the HOF.

But as I said previously everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

He is the only person to be drafted in all 3 major sports, NBA, MLB and NFL.

Sounds like he could of been a boxer too.... Ok - I'll move on now....

Professional wrestler, boxers dont sucker punch, but pro wrestlers hit people over the back with chairs all the time.

I guess nobody needs to ask: “Does he spit, swallow, or dodge?”

Too soon?
