Sacramento Kings @ Cleveland Cavaliers; Wednesday, January 2nd, 2013 7:00pm ET

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I was at the game tonight, some mental notes I took

- Cousins is a punk (I sat in the middle deck behind the Kings bench) and treats everyone like trash

- Kyrie is the next superstar PG (duh)

- There was a pretty cool moment during the Deal or No Deal game that they play during one of the timeouts. A kid with Down's Syndrome and his mom were playing and they won the $500. They got a standing ovation while the kid looked like the happiest person on earth.

- I also thought I saw Jimmy Haslam sitting next to Chris Grant and Big Z in one of the box seats (someone check that for me)

I was at the game as well. Saw Z sitting with a few business men. Don't think it was Haslem.

Couple comments:
1. Dion's body language was not good during the game. Walking back and forth, seemed disinterested for periods of the game on both ends. Kid needs to be more aggressive. Get away from taking the 3. He is good passing off the drive.
2. Tristian has a great work effort. Kid is always moving and hustling. People would love him as much as Andy if he was a mid to late 1st round pick. Cavs need to find the right big to pair with him. He is ten times better than Hickson on the defensive end and rebounding.
3. Absolutely hate Bryon's rotations in the second half. Love the first half rotations. The second half rotations scream tank. Kyrie should be back in the game at the official timeout in the 4th.
4. Livingston is really tall. I can see why people get excited when they see him in person. Then you watch him play and wish Pargo was on the floor. His defense was worse than Kyrie's. Did not seem interested in rebounding.

Dion has taken more three attempts than Kyrie on the season, Kyrie has taken more free throw attempts than Dion.

This is the diametric opposite to the roles we saw them filling in the preseason.

Would like to say that this seems like an affliction that has taken hold of all of our guards. Our bigs would scrap and claw to get a rebound, but every single ball that bounced out seemed to be swooped up by the Sacramento guards. I don't know if our guards were able to come up with a single 50-50 ball tonight. Maybe I'm to harsh, because we generally do win the rebounding battle, but man it feels like our guards never help on that end at all.

We lost to an 1-13 team when they play away from home. The Bobcats went on a 18 game losing streak and still are a better team by a game. Kyrie Irving is one special entertaining player. But he's well below average on defense, specifically on-ball defense. I don't even see us being a .500 team next year, maybe in 2 years. I fully expect the Cavs to beat teams like Sacramento at home, but it's not happening. Which brings me to my question, is everyone getting depressed of being a Cavs fan?

Z sits next to CG every game, one of them was definitely CG. But there was an older guy with grayish/white hair. Was hoping it was Geoff Petrie working out a trade of Cousins to the Cavs :chuckles:

Pretty sure it was Haslam though.

From Bob Finnan:

WHAT HAPPENED: The Kings are in the midst of playing four games in five nights on the road. They lost at Detroit on Tuesday.

They were 1-13 on the road coming into Wednesday's game, 0-4 vs. the Eastern Conference. The Cavs had won 10 of their last 11 games vs. the Kings, including a 5-1 mark at The Q.

So, what happened? Yep, the Cavs once again failed to protect their home turf. They are exactly the same at home as they are on the road. Bad.

They are supposed to be developing their young talent this year. Instead, that young talent is regressing in many ways. Once again, Kyrie Irving was mediocre. Sure, he had a game-high 22 points. However, he was disengaged for much of the game. He wasn't being aggressive making plays.

He's too talented to be playing like this. The most discouraging sign of his night was his three turnovers in the final 3:50 of the game. When they needed him the most, he broke down.

Rookie Dion Waiters finished with 20 points, but he appeared to be miffed about being demoted from the starting lineup. He just launched shots for much of the night.

Tyler Zeller didn't play well, either, and he hasn't for the last week or so. He struggled trying to defend DeMarcus Cousins, who ended with 18 points and 16 rebounds. Zeller had eight points and eight rebounds.

Cousins in a major talent. He can also step out on the floor and make 18-footers, which I hadn't seen before. The Kings say he isn't going to be traded. If he is, it can't be to a team like the Cavs. It would have to be to a team like New York or Boston, teams that have strong veteran players to keep him in line.

If he came to the Cavs as one media member thought should happen (no names, please), he would soon be a major voice in the locker room. The Cavs have no veterans that speak up. He also doesn't fit the culture with which they are trying to build.

Power forward Tristan Thompson played hard, but was in foul trouble. He ended with nine points and 13 rebounds. He's been pretty darn good the last couple weeks. Most think it's because Cavs center Anderson Varejao (bruised right knee) has been out of the lineup.

By the way, Varejao has now missed seven consecutive games (the Cavs are 2-5).

He must have some bruised knee. There are rumors that it's much worse. Of course, I'm not a doctor (I just play one on television). Just kidding.

He is still experiencing pain when he tries to push off on his leg.

Guard Daniel Gibson (concussion) is perhaps days from coming back. His outside shooting is needed.

For the Kings, guards Tyreke Evans (sore left knee) and Marcus Thornton (sprained left ankle) missed Wednesday's game.

Shaun Livingston made his Cavs' debut and had two points, two rebounds and one assist in 13 minutes. He is long, if nothing else.

As a brief aside, can you believe how little Thomas Robinson plays for the Kings. He had two points and two rebounds in eight minutes. He was the fifth pick in the draft. Why isn't he playing? That's the only way he'll get better. This isn't a playoff team. Aren't they trying to develop their young players?

Haselm was in Arizona interviewing Wisenhunt.
