Samardo Samuels: Thoughts Observations and Projections

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It boggles my mind this guy is still on the roster. Poor work ethic, Scott constantly sends him to the dog house to get him to work harder, always out of shape, and he's has no talent to show for.

He'll be out of the league pretty soon.

He is the classic player that is just good enough to make the Nba, but will never be able to develop int anything more than the guy at the end of the bench. We need some serious talent upgrades when it comes to the second team. I am ok with Zeller and Luer coming off the bench, but Walton, Sloan and CJ are unwatchable so far.

When a coach says he went with his gut in explaining going with one player of another. It means his head sees Samuels as the better player. I also see no problem with giving a guy who is getting 6 million dollar to play basketball an oppurtunity to play basketball in his first healthy season in 3 years.

That being said. Samuels in one game at 8 minutes demonstrated more production than Walton did in 3 games.

Meanwhile in the very very small sample size of samuels minutes. the bench most effective combinations have been with Samuels on the court. Which sort of stick out at you considering the one game he did play the bench was outscored 65-15.

Eventually Scott will take walton out of the rotation and put Samuels in. Samuels can play with any cmbination of Thompson/Zellers/ AV even leuer.

Samuels Matured this offseason. He has done everything asked from him from the coaching staff and he is smarter than he looks. literally.

How about Samardo tonight showed a nice step back jumper. Something to build on perhaps.

I had to honestly wipe my eyes when I saw that shot, as I thought that was miles for a second.

I really don't understand when fans can't see a big change in a player like Samuels shot. His jumper has been money since the end of last season and it just keeps falling. I don't think we will see the step back a lot, but he has been hitting jumpers pretty consistently.

Robert Traylor, RIP. That's a good comparison. Even though he was a flawed player who couldn't make his flawed team better, Tractor was so much fun to watch that I didn't care.

That's a "numbers-only" comparison, interesting because the similar body-types, but not accurate... Traylor was high-motor and most definitely made his team better. Watching an Anderson Varejao/Tractor Traylor All-Harassment bench unit in 04/05 was FREAKING FANTASTIC. Guys would try to drive through their double team trap only to be left wondering, "How is this guy's hand coming out the bottom of my jersey?"

Back on topic...Samardo, yeah, not the sharpest knife in the drawer. Also having the same problem DeJuan Blair has, just 2 inches too short for PF to be out on the floor a lot.

If Samardo was smart, he'd give up on the NBA dream and go get paid overseas. He's trash.

Well, he did raise his eFG% on jumpers from 22.1% up to 31.3% last year. Fools gold? Or new weapon? tbd...

I know it is a different game and the NBA is a higher level but in Louisville, he nailed that jumper pretty often. Also, i don't get the negativity on him still. He's improved his game, it is clear to see. Yeah, he isn't the smartest guy BUT he's doing some of the small stuff the coach wants.

I'd like to see more of him IF Tristan refuses to shoot that jump shot and continues to try and FORCE everything under the hoop.

He's better then Walton. Not saying much perhaps but at this point, that would have probably translated to a 3-1 record (helped against the Clippers, avoided the bench fiasco against the Bucks) for us.

Never thought I'd be so happy to see Samardo get playing time.

Luke Walton will do these things to you :chuckles:

But seriously, Samardo is a capable player and should be getting some minutes like he did last night.

I loved the shock coming from Don McLean and the Clippers announcers. They had no idea who made the shot. Sadly that is the problem with Samardo. When it comes to having a floor game and battling inside, he goes unnoticed.

I'd rather see Leuer than Sam Sam or The Six Million Dollar Man.
