SELL SELL SELL!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This "core" was one game away from a World Series birth, but now they can't contend.

Got it.

The Rockies were IN the World Series.

I don't see anyone singing the praises of that core. Jesus Christ, a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while, too. Ever heard that phrase? It means in a year where our bullpen was literally untouchable, we had 2 Cy Young quality pitchers, and the offense was clicking, we almost got to the World Series.

Here's another term for you: regression to the mean. Heard that one before?

That is the single most retarded post you have made.

Isn't that kind of what a WS championship is?

Finding a nut every once and a while....

If that's your philosophy, fine. But no, I don't see it like that. You should go out every year with the intention of competing for a World Series title at the very least. The Indians have done that, one year? Two? And in years they were supposed to, have often faltered.

So have the Yankees over the last nine years, it doesn't mean they're going to be idiots about it and fire everyone.

Last I checked, they "fired" their manager. Who had a LOT MORE WORLD SERIES RINGS THAN WEDGE, I thought.

Besides, what are you talking about? The Yankees compete almost every year. Rarely do they tank job it. They just freakin went to the WS a few years back and are usually in the playoffs.

Plus they can spend money wherever they want to restock and retool. Tribe can't do that, so we need good baseball people who know their shit and can find diamonds in the rough, draft, and make good trades. Shapiro can make good trades, and occasionally finds a diamond, but his staff cannot draft and at this point I'd have to question their ability to put a winning team on the field.

9 years of having the top payroll in baseball and no rings to back it up is not considered a tank job?

Their drafts have been a product of poor financing, drafting guys on signability rather than ability. That has changed drastically over the last two years, I'd like to see how that works out before I do something reactionary and start a seven year process all over again.

So you believe the Indians have had a "change of heart" when it comes to drafting and are moving in the right direction. You legitimately believe that? If so, that's great. You know what, I won't even argue that. However, that still does not excuse the excessive amount of failures in their drafts in the past, but sure, I'd be willing to see how it works out.

That is, if the on the field product wasnt so god awful.

As for the Yankees, I am not even going to go there. That team makes the playoffs almost EVERY year and wins almost 90 games even when they dont. No rings since 2000, sure, but let me end that point by saying this: I would not be a quarter as bitter as I am right now if the Indians saw half the success the Yankees saw over the past 9 years.

Dont you agree?

The drafts of this organization over the past ten years are THE very reason why they have not won a World Series.

That is a FIXABLE problem, and the steps the Indians have taken over the past two years proves to me they are committed to FIXING that problem.

Money doesn't lie, the Indians almost doubled their spending in the 2008 draft and will eclipse that mark again this year (Maybe in Alex White's bonus alone).

Fair enough. I said I would not argue that point because if the Indians are actively taking steps to improve their drafts- and it SHOWS- then I cannot and will not fault them. The only problem with this is that drafts will take years to impact this team. In the mean time, the Indians need to make moves to secure the team's immediate future and I still believe that if we do not go on some magical run like some of you think we will, then at the deadline yes, some names need to be dealt. Possibly even a Victor or Lee.

That is unless we can re-sign them.

I don't really want to resign Cliff Lee.

Victor Martinez should be, and I presume, WILL be resigned.

Why not? Then who is your staff ace? I see a dearth of quality pitching in our immediate AAA level and even below that, who is coming up that is project as a good major league starter?

My heart says keep Vic but my head says keep Lee...

And please back at ya; I don't want another Cleveland forums who tries to stop people from voicing opinions. I was responding to all the pessimists in this thread. Am I not allowed to do that? If not, please let me know. If I am, I will continue to try to contribute to threads.

I don't care if you voice opinions about the topic at hand. But this thread has gone off the rails and no one is posting anything relevant to the topic I presented (potential trade deadline deals) and this thread, like pretty much every thread in the Indians or Browns forums has degenerated into b00bie and cmstophe/The Common Man bickering about the same things. It's ****ing tired.

Please just lock this thread.

How can we talk deadline deals when we dont even know if Shapiro will see us as sellers or buyers?

As such. the thread is going to BE about whether we will be sellers or buyers. Just the way conversations go. They can't always be on rails.

If you're a small/mid market team, I would never sign a pitcher to a long term extension. The Indians have a pretty solid farm system pitching wise, so hopefully someone like Rondon, Gomez, De La Cruz, Huff, ect. steps up and develops like they have the potential to do.

Three years ago, when we looked at CC potentially leaving...who would have looked at our current system and realized Cliff Lee would be our ace when he left?

Pitching is SO up and down in this game today, long-term deals for arms is just no longer a sound investment.

I shutter to think what CC will be like in seven years, the Yankees will inevitable regret their decision to sign him....most teams always do (see: Giants (Zito), Rangers (Millwood), Dodgers (everyone), Mets (see: Dodgers).
