Im looking through all these threads and there is trade offer after offer to trade Gooden to free up Anderson to start..

Last time I checked...he wasnt near ready to start LAST YEAR. And then he played some Brazil national games, get's injured and now he is ready to be a starter?

I, along with just about every other Cavs fan, has no idea how much he could have improved since he was playing with his national team.

He is our energy guy, he has a lot of potential for us, but you guys are kidding yourselves if you think he is ready to start. He is so lost on the court it is rediculous...you gotta give this kid some time. You put him as our savoir at the four, but if we trade Gooden and dont get a big in return and start Anderson, we would be taking a step backwords.

Hate Gooden all you want for his inconsistantcy...he is solid. His offense comes and goes, but that all depend son how much Lebron wants to shoot. We dont really run a set offense here, if you havent noticed, so Gooden getting a solid 12 PPG here is next to impossible. Every player on this team is up and down when it comes to scoring except Lebron.

Trading Gooden for a small guard will only make our team have more problems..

Agreed Mac....and whatever happened to ELight, or Enlightenment - he was a huge proponent of having VeryJoe start....

I'm going to assume that if Ferry moves Drew he is going to make sure that a big is coming in return or do a second trade to get a another PF.

Even if a PF didn't come in return for Drew, why would AV suddenly be playing 35 minutes....Drew only plays 28. Marshall could start and play a few more than he has been and AV could play 20....Henderson could play a few more too.

I don't think ANYONE mentioned Varejao starting after this trade was made. What I think they said was, Gooden isn't our PF of the future Varejao is. They didn't say he would start obviously the starting job would go to Donyell Marshall. No one on here is ignorant enough to beleive that Varejao would get the nod over Marshall upon his return. So mac he isn't ready to start but one day he will be, he is going to turn into a great player but I'm not sure where you picked up that he would start.

Gooden is soft and inconsistent...BYE

No way would you start Varejao. His strengths are best suited off the bench being a tempo lifter. His style would be cramped as a starter, with his aggressive play likely to lead to foul trouble.

Marshall starting is a no brainer. This also means dependable forward Alan Henderson increases his role and we may see Hamilton here and there.

Remember if we do move Gooden for a guard, we have a draft pick and the MLE to restock up front. Not an issue to replace Gooden whatsoever.

Exactly, good post. Who the hell said Anderson would start?!?! Right now Coach Brown uses a three-man rotation for the front court. Z and Gooden start, then Marshall comes in to spell Z at center, then Z comes back in for Gooden and moves Marshall to PF, then Gooden for Marshall, etc. Varejao's ability to play both PF and C make him perfect to replace Marshall's role as the backup in this rotation while Marshall starts at PF. Plus Marshall is a more natural rebounder than Gooden. Gooden has to work his ass off for the boards he gets but Marshall seems to rebound like a natural.

Gooden is expendable because of MARSHALL, not just Varejao. Seriously, would we be losing much if we traded Gooden? His 9 or so boards can be replaced so easily.

who's going to replace Drew's 3.3 offensive rebounds/game?

Varejao was fourth in the league last year in offensive rebounds per 48 minutes. So don't you worry about that. :D

The combination of Ilgauskas (elite offensive rebounder), Marshall (almost on par with Drew), Varejao (as mentioned above) and Henderson (capable rebounder) should limit any meltdown without Drew.

Who is going to replace Drew's interior defense and protection of the basket ?

The oxygen around "THE Q" can make up for it....

AV would not start Marshall would. But I would not trade Gooden for a point. I woudl look for a back up center in return AND a point guard.

If the big was Drew Gooden and the point Jason Terry, you do it, no second thoughts.

I do like Varejao as a player a lot and want him to here with the Cavs, but I also think he's highly overrated by many Cavs fans. I have also seen some posts since last year that have stated about making Varejao the starter at PF.

Varejao is a raw, high energy, foul prone young player. He still needs a lot of development and is best suited as an energy player off the bench. He also has a limited offensive game at this point in his career.

Varejao became popular and a fan favorite from the effort and hustle he plays with at all times. It was a refreshing change from the lazy play of many Cavs players in recent seasons.
