Slingin' Sammy "Super Soaker" Merrill

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I like this. I am worried it keeps us from picking up a big for the playoffs
Any player that was already on a team had to be added by March 1st to be playoff eligible.

Koby Altman is going to keep Wade, Windler and now Sam to force JB’s hand whether he likes it or not lol
He's not keeping Windler. Technically he's a RFA this summer but I doubt we'd match a minimum contract. At least I hope not.

They have to be free agents by March 1, they dont have to be on the playoff roster by March 1.

I think if they wanted Diakite to be playoff eligible they would have upgraded his contract to a normal NBA contract and put Merrill on a two way contract. I think it's pretty interesting that they didn't give Merrill a second 10 day contract before signing him to a normal contract.
I'd guess someone else wanted him.

I was intrigued by all the wings on the floor. Maybe the answer to Wade and Stevens and Cedi and Rubio and LeVert is to play them all at once.

Super small sample size but he looks beyond ridiculous on defense.

It just might be they wanted to take care of him. He ended up getting part of the MLE instead of signing him just as a minimum player. It would be a smart move to take care of good G-league players, it could make it more of an incentive to try to make it in the G-league to get to the NBA vs signing a contract in Europe. For the Charge and the Cavs it could also give them a good reputation of taking care those fringe players and help recruit UDFA after the draft.

The next Max Strus

He’s playing up his value, which at this point is good whether the Cavs keep him or toss him in a trade. I’m still guessing he’s not on the roster after the deadline, but good to see him shooting well.

Gravity movement shooting so far from Old Man Sam. He's helping Mobley, Diop, Bates, Porter and Luke to develop with the threat of his sniper shots. I don't think he's a rotation player, but this free agency period taught us that three point consistency is a premium.
