Slingin' Sammy "Super Soaker" Merrill

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
That’s true but sometimes there are intangibles like personalities on the floor, some guys inspire confidence in others especially shooters.

Look at Hart in New York with Brunson, Hart is playing the best basketball of his career and I think a large part of that his playing with a great friend of his in Brunson.

Of course hot streak cold streaks happens, can be anything with shooting, being in the wrong head space due to personal reasons, small injuries etc

For whatever reason the whole team seems way more fired up when Mitchel is leading the show compared to Garland.
Maybe, but maybe instead, physically the team peaked including Merrill. Not the first time for a JB team or Mitchell. No backers, several days off........keeps those energy levels high. Merrill looks tired, alternating his shot.

Mitchell is making the decision faster. He also has more gravity. It affects how open Sam is. Yes, he missed several open ones, but he has not been getting the ball on time. It's not a big difference but its a difference.

Uggh, denial is a river.

If enough injuries happen to Garland, Mitchell, Okoro, LeVert, Rubio, Jerome, and Strus that force Merrill into a large role, then the team is screwed regardless.

Doesn't mean there won't be a role in the future, but today, he's simply blocked by way too many guys.

Didn't work out that way, though.

It's not mutually exclusive. You both can be right. He was in a funk and missed Mitchell's chemistry. Glad he caught fire again!

Yeah, I whiffed on Sam. Was very happy to see him right the ship last night.

He’s a guy who should have consistent minutes planned for him, and get some more if he’s hot. He can shoot you out of games but that’s a risk worth taking.

I think he went through a slump, but I also saw he wasn't getting the ball in the pocket, was sometimes bringing it up from his knees etc. Sometimes he was getting it almost as he was already going up. Mitchell was getting him the ball just as the defense stunted toward Mitchell.

Timing on passes is important and can be the difference between a make and miss for sure

Is there a stat that shows who assisted on his made 3's that someone can find?

Throw a dart at Kyle Korver’s career. You’ll find stretches like Merrill just went through.

It happens.

NBA.com has this...but Sam Merrill's stats page is not working. Wtf.

NBA.cok is actually pretty darn good for stats. Has a lot of stuff that basketballreference doesn't have. But unsure if there's even more better sites.

It doesn't break it down by 2PA vs 3PA but only 11% of hit shit attempts are 2's

Also I see the typo and I chose to leave it

You point was valid, he was buried deep in the bench and shouldn't have seen the light of day except for Rubio's surprise departure and a lot of missed games for the starting guards. Now if it had just been Porter or Merrill in the deep bench, the team would have been screwed, but since both of them turned out to be capable role players with complimentary NBA level skills, the team had different tools to plug into the lineup. Neither pulled a DTR.
