It's true, despite how great Griffin has done at this point, especially when it comes to trades. A small criticism is that we probably could have gotten Mozgov for less. But let's look at things on the flip, things were going DRASTICALLY BAD! A change needed, and it might have been Blatt at this point, if we didn't jump on it now.
Then we have Dan Gilbert. I don't have any info on this, so I'm just going on assumption here. But there's no doubt, he was ready to land the hammer down, and do it fast if things didn't improve. So I am sure he was in Giffin's ear to get something done sooner, rather than later. For all we know Griffin preferred to wait, but Gilbert either forced his hand on this deal, or was ready to shit can Blatt when Griffin didn't want that, so he moved on the trade now to get things rolling.
Honestly, I really don't care if he we could have gotten Mozgov for less. We're talking about two picks we probably won't see in years, while our season was on the spiral of going down the drains fast.
The small risk, is definitely worth the reward, especially if that reward ends up being a championship.
We had zero chance, nil, none, at all of winning a title with what we had before. It was so bad, we were on the verge of being a one and done come playoff time.
Has Griffin been perfect? No, he hasn't. I think he goofed big time going into the year without at least a backup center. I thought also not looking to get a backup point guard, outside summer league garbage wasn't ideal either.
Far as I'm concern, he's already out done easily anything Grant ever did. Sure, Grant did good things, don't get me wrong. He collected picks/assets, and that definitely helped Griffin do some things because of that. But to me, Grant never has any vision of what a team should look like on the floor, and that really showed a lot in the draft picks he made, and the players he acquired.
Maybe Grant is a fine scout, but as a gm, I thought it was obvious he was pretty horrific.
He is the worst talent evaluator this city has ever seen.Maybe Grant is a fine scout

Yeah, no. Not even the worst talent evaluator the Cavs have ever seen.
Are you kidding? Who has done less with more than Chris Grant did?
The guy didn't know an impact player from the hole in his ass, and showed it on a yearly basis at draft time.
Ted Stepien was clearly the worst. He was so dumb, they had to create rules because of his stupidity.
I know he was an owner, but he basically ran the franchise into the grown himself.
Just a nice bump for Mr. Griffin.
We're as hot as any team in the league and yet still haven't reached our potential. Very few can say that. I still believe he made the right moves at the right time.
There's always going to be people saying we mortgaged a future, etc...
But you don't waste prime LeBron years. You try to win now. David pulled the trigger at the right time and we are truly rolling. We went from "we're still a year away" to "we can still fucking win this thing" really quick. LeBron's health is a big reason too, but that goes to show how important trying to win now is. This isn't a 3 year plan.
Just really impressed with the balls of David Griffin. Well done. He's put us in position, and for a city that hasn't won in 50 years, that's all I ask.
Ferry didn't have an assistant GM who's also an MVP. Having LBJ recruit now like he did in Miami makes a GM look a lot smarter.^^ Yes. As much as I credit Gilbert's pockets and Lebron's new found recruiting prowess since he came back, Griffin has obviously been aggressive since he took over.
Not counting the rushed moves we had to make to get Lebron back here (I personally dont miss Zeller and Jack as much as some of you) he's managed to turn Dion Waiters and some heavily protected future picks into a fearless veteran shooting guard, a very good wing defender, a rim protecting 7 footer, and now a 4th big with big time playoff experience and interior muscle.
Props to Griff. That's not easy to pull off. Ask Ferry.
