So long, David Griffin

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
(An open letter)

Dear David Griffin,

You actually turned a late first round pick, 3 cadavers and 1 roadkill into the deepest bench in the league. Many apologies for doubting you, and may you win that EOY award that has eluded you for so long.

Signed,

JMoneyYOURHoney

Griffin turned a departing RFA into Kyle Korver while dumping dead salary and freeing up a roster slot.
That alone should merit GM of the year.

Griffin did great, just like the previous years. The question for GM of the year: was there another GM this year that did better and got the media attention?

Masai in Toronto made a few good trades as well.

I think Morey is the frontrunner, but if there's any justice in the world they'd give it to Griff.

He deserves the strong praise for putting this incredible roster together, no doubt. However, I'm holding out final judgement until we see what he does this summer. If LeBron didn't like the full roster a month ago, he's not going to be happy if some of these guys leave for more $ than the min. I'm just curious to see what Griff does this summer with little assets (Cedi) and no cap space. Maybe he can convince Dan to buy a late first rounder?

Excellent work from Griff once again.

For the third successive season, he has managed to add players who have had positive impact on our season and sorted the needs with so little assets. Obviously having LeBron helps but its so refreshing to see a GM who is able to provide LeBron and our coaching staff with a roster which genuinely has a great chance of winning the NBA Championship.

I hope he finally wins the GM of the year because its about damn time.

Having said all that, I want to say I still think he made an error not going for any half decent PG in the off-season even if it was someone who was average like a Jordan Farmar or Norris Cole. We could have cut them later but they could have helped us in our quest to rest LeBron and Kyrie a bit more. Even if it was 1 Min Per Game less for either, it was worth it. Because signing McRae for a permanent contract seems like a bad move now and honestly was always a bad move.

Completely reshaped/improved bench and playable active depth mid season while REDUCING payroll and tax bill.

In the big multi season picture, there's plenty to debate about Griffin and the job of the Cavs GM in general. In the vacuum of the beginning of the season through now, it's an undeniable masters class of GM-ing

Thank you Griff

He essentially turned Mike Dunleavy Jr, a retired Mo Williams, an injured Chris Anderson, and a 2019 first round pick into Kyle Korver, Derrick Williams, Deron Williams, and Andrew Bogut.

:clap::clap::clap:

Yeah, the one thing about Griffin is that he has been a fantastic/genius in-season GM and kind of a mediocre off-season GM. He seems to have this tendency to sort of settle for flawed rosters in the summer and then make great in-season moves once he sees what the flaw in the roster is.
