So Long, James Jones

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Don't sleep on his three crucial threes at the beggining of the game, they were very important.
Agreed, his play in the Bulls series was good and I think he's solidified himself as that first option off the bench when LeBron or a big man come out of the game. If he can shoot like that, he can offset his defensive limitations.

He's always the forgotten one, a kind of an unsung hero, his threes tonight at the beggining of the game were important again, when he's hot - he's giving us a good spacing out there, and inserting confidence in others.
Hearing the way he talks after games making me think he'll be a good coach someday, assuming he'll want to, because he is so intelligent, articulate and sees the game so clearly, great person to have on our team.

I like what Blatt is doing with him. Match him with the shitty ass player that the other team plays that can't move. Against Chicago it was Noah. Now it's Mike Scott. When Mike Scott is in the game is when James Jones can play.

No doubt coaches are finding easy matchups for Jones, but I'll give the guy credit. He's not a gifted defender but he's got length determination and smarts and he's been using those skills to avoid being a liability, even when he has to pick up a challenging assignment for a possession every so often. He's not doing the Korver "run away" defense. He's been gutting it out and making the other team work.

Still can't believe out of him, Miller, and The Matrix JJ is the guy that's in the rotation and giving us meaningful minutes and coming up clutch. Just didn't think he'd be the guy and I'll never underestimate him again.

He'll definitely be a coach in college or the NBA when his career ends; it's all up to him if he wants it.

He has been a big plus for this team in the playoffs. He's hitting big shots and isn't giving up the world on D.

Getting nothing from him tonight hurt.

He has only had a pair of 3's the past 2 games, but it felt like alot more as GS had to really account for him in his minutes.

Tonight he was pretty much invisible and offered none of that deterrent factor that helped our offense the past 2 games.

The fact that Miller and Marion cannot even remotely crack the rotation is really killing us as well. We're operating at 1/3 of our big 3; and if we just had some scrub depth like Livingston, Zeller...... We'd wax the fucking floors with these cats.

If they think GS is a greatest team of all time, I cannot wait for next year. If we were healthy: sweep. Yep.

That's how much better we are. I'm not scared of this team remotely. I'd be a lot more scared if a 7 footer like Dirk was on the other end, not some hotshot like Curry.

Ive seen Jones look pitiful at times during this series and then play spectacular on both sides of the court.. frustrating guy to root for. This though has been his drawback throughout his career. Hopefully in Game 5 we will see more good Jones than bad jones

Unbelievable. You guys have 3 more pages of Delly debate overnight- meanwhile we're retaining the greatest Finals shooter of all time: (I had to dig to Page 4 to even find the James Jones thread...)

James Jones said "I'll be back in Cleveland for sure"
By Joe Vardon, Northeast Ohio Media Group

LAS VEGAS – During these at times frenetic and expensive days of free agency for the Cavaliers, the one name seldom mentioned as been James Jones.

Well, he's a free agent, too. And he's coming back.

"I'll be back in Cleveland for sure," Jones told the Northeast Ohio Media Group Sunday in Las Vegas, on the red carpet for the first Players' Awards show.

"I've made it well known last year when I told them I was coming to help change the culture and do something special," Jones said. "It wasn't a situation where I was looking for a platform to move on. I was looking to be a part of something, to build something. And so I'm still in."

Jones, 34, is a free agent after playing out his one-year contract with the Cavs last season.

A 12-year veteran, he would qualify for a veteran's minimum salary of $1.5 million, which would be a $950,000 cap hit for Cleveland. He made the league-minimum $1.45 million last season.

A league source confirmed the Cavs would re-sign Jones. He's been a friend and teammate to LeBron James dating back at least to 2010, during James' first season in Miami.

The 6-8 forward averaged 4.4 points in 11.7 minutes per game during the regular season, and kept his scoring average through increased playing time during the playoffs.

"Last year was big for me in establishing who I am and defining myself," Jones said. "So, I'm excited about the things I've worked on this summer, and they'll see a different James Jones next year for sure."

The Cavaliers are negotiating with restricted free agent Tristan Thompson on a long-term contract, and may bring back J.R. Smith. The team is also considering signing Russian center Sasha Kaun.

"Those are conversations that are always tough to have," Jones said, speaking about Smith and Thompson. "This is the part of the business that requires a lot of thought and requires a lot of work. I'm hopeful we'll get it done. They're a big part of what we've done and we'll continue to do."

I like Jones staying. He proved to still be able to shoot the ball in pressure situations on a big stage. He's a minus defensively but there's ways to hide him as we saw during the postseason and he's a big shot maker who LeBron likes playing wit and who sets a good on-court example for the other guys. Happy to have him back at the minimum and hopefully with proper health, we rely on him even less than we did last year.

Something is happening!

I assumed he was coming back, but it's still good news.

I first read this and almost left work... then I realized it was about James Jones and sat back down. :ambivalence:
