So Long, James Jones

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I like Jones staying. He proved to still be able to shoot the ball in pressure situations on a big stage. He's a minus defensively but there's ways to hide him as we saw during the postseason and he's a big shot maker who LeBron likes playing wit and who sets a good on-court example for the other guys. Happy to have him back at the minimum and hopefully with proper health, we rely on him even less than we did last year.

How is he a big shot maker? He shot 30.8% from 3 in the Finals, 34% overall in the post season. Had a few good games against Chicago, that's it.

Nobody made shots in the finals. He was smothered the entire series because we had no threats outside of LeBron. Atlanta and Boston both really weren't even series. Chicago series is what I'm basing it off of. I'm confident in Jones' ability if given a real opportunity.

He did have a decent post season overall given our circumstances. On the downside he will be a year older, and no other team made an effort to sign him. He is getting to the point where he is close to Mike Miller in terms of being a statue. Dont mind him at the end of the bench. What I do mind is if he gets big minutes in the regular rotation.

Even though I liked JJ this past year I am wondering if we may not be better off with a younger player with better defense to back up LBJ. Maybe someone like Dorell Wright. Wish we could get rid of Miller and JJ could just take his roster spot.

James Jones is the random guy no one cares about until he is on your team. Great sign and many forget this guy gave all he had while not much. He sets an example for younger guys and to have him back along with the MVP cheerleader. We have the best mix of everything at the end of the bench. He is a great guy to have around. I am glad this is official.

And more importantly, he is being bought as your 11-15 rotation guy. You can't get better players than JJ for that.

Yep and Richard Jefferson is a much better defensive player than Jones and Marion (In his latter year) I hear so many Mavs fans say they will miss the defense he gave. Well a catch and shoot defensive first back up to Lebron is just what I want and so did LeBron. Come on he had his say in this you know he did. Also Jones gives us that guy can step in for Jefferson and that alone is awesome.

I don't think JJ is going to play the 3 much. Blatt used him a lot as a stretch four last season and he would most probably do the same this time as well. Also, I don't expect RJ to be the first choice back-up to LeBron. Think it will be Shump/JR and then RJ plays.

What do you guys think he does so well in the locker room?

General morale. And I think he is willing to mentor younger players as both Kyrie and Love have taken to him.

I always assumed that as the Secretary /Treasurer of the NBA Players Association he is a bright, level headed guy. Of course that's just because in fraternities, you put your most responsible person in that role.

James Jones actually contributed last year and showed the ability in the last 30 games + the playoffs to come in at any point cold in the game and hit threes. He will not help you take over a game because of what he gives back on defense, but he will help you hold serve while out on the court. That is acceptable for a guys slotted 11th or 12th on the roster.

He is not dead weight on a 15 man roster. Not in the bottom 5 roster slots. Not for the vet min.

As far as locker room presence, listen to the way Love, LeBron, and Blatt all talk about him. He is a natural communication bridge between all three of them, should things ever get hairy again communication wise. But even without that, I am fine with him in the roster.
