Summer of 2010

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Trading LBJ will never be a fair deal, due to salaries having to match up. A team would have to throw in 4 first round unprotected picks, 6 second round picks, and any players that team has overseas. Maybe even a 5th first round pick, but that one can be protected. :chuckles:

Haha yeah it could never be fair, but I was thinking something along the lines of http://games.espn.go.com/nba/featur...7~1966~2172~885&teams=5~5~5~5~3~3~3&te=&cash=

There now that is not exactly a fair trade for us or them, but we goet parts that are tradable for players we may want, plus we get rid of Pavs which is really a huge positive for me!

Attitude wise and defensive effort, wally wins hands down, lol :chuckles:...in all seriousness, melo makes as much sense as melo. Guys with only one true position, the 3. We already have a guy there you might have heard of. If you want a superstar buddy of LBJ's, dream of wade or bosh. Atleast they would fit in the lineup. Vince for wally would make us the favorites at the trade deadline if I...er I mean ferry can pull it off.

lmao, yes that is true, but LeBron could move down to the two, which isn't exactly a huge stretch anyway. He handles the ball so much now that he is basically a guard, this would just make it official. Melo + LBJ would be the best one two in history. Mind you I am not against getting Vince there Fer.......Lee. (You just have to promise me that you, or rather Ferry will trade him by the 2010 deadline)

Personally I dont see a Bosh or Wade being an option in 2010. Actually the free agent that would be the perfect fit is Amare. WIth his new found jumper and athletic ability, he would be astonishing next to LBJ. Dont think Kerr will let him go, max free agents just dont jump ship. Once Shaq went to LA because he wanted to start a movie career. Unless one of these max free agents wants to be a curator the Rock and Roll hall of fame, there is no advantage to coming to cleveland, lol. Look through the list and find one second tier and one third tier player and thats what we will see coming. A larry hughes and donyell marshall level signing, but a better fit would be more expected. Thing is, with the neucleous we have, LBJ, Mo, Gibson, Maybe Av, Hickson, West, etc....Those type of signings would have huge impact.

Players who could move that year via free agency are stephen jackson, josh howard or even michael Redd, as I dont see the bucks offering him another max this time around.

Re: the Wade/Bosh question... as much as I'd love to have Wade, I have to admit that Bosh would be a better fit with Lebron. He can play PF or C, which makes him especially valuable if JJ develops into a good player at the PF position. Three other players I have my eye on are Jason Richardson, Shane Battier, and Tyson Chandler, all of whom I think would fit very well here.

I agree, are all 3 free agents in 2010? If so those are the type of players that end up leaving via free agency. I could see us being able to add Richardson and Chandler both maybe for example with the amount of cap space we should have. Battier and Bosh would be a dream. It also depends on how next offseason and the trade deadline shape up. If Z decides to play one more contract and for how much. If Z stays, he needs to be signed first, as I dont see his next contract being nearly as big as the current, and his cap hold would be 150% of his previous years salary. Lots of ifs for that offseason. One thing is clear, Ferry is definetely formulatiing a plan, and its seems to be coming together nicely.

J-Rich+Chandler would be awesome, a 27 year old C and 28 yr old sg (in 2010) who fulfill their duties well. Big Z would be a great backup to Chandler. A guy like Chandler doing the dirty work and getting the easy buckets making it easier for Hickson to command the low post, then we got LeBron/J-Rich/Mo.

Damn 2 years and I'm already excited. So many options....

According to http://www.realgm.com/src_freeagents/2010/, Richardson, Battier, and Chandler are all unrestricted free agents in 2010.

Was not doubting you, I typically only do the cba related digging...more fun for me, lol....The free agent list will changed some by then, as some players re-sign with the tame. Battier I feel would be a perfect fit for us. Heck all 3 would.

It counts because we do have his birds rights and we have the right to sign him to a higher contract. If we want, we can do what the clippers did with megatte and waive his rights, but that would just mean we dont want lebron back so that would never happen.

Lebron will have bird rights because he wont be traded and has played with us for 3 consecutive seasons or more. His cap hold will be 150% of his previous years salary, which will be $15,779,912. So, his cap hold will be $23,669,868. Curently the max contract for a 7 year vet is 30%. That is the first year it bumps up btw, which is why he wanted to be able to opt out after 7 years...more money (even if he stayes) The current cap is 65 million so 30% is 19.5. But lets assume the cap moves up to 70 million, that means he can start at $21 million. as you can see, $21 million on a new contract is more than the $17.1 he has on his current player option on the 4 year vet contract during the 2011 season.(starts at 20% max of salary cap)

2 things from all the numbers are important. One, this is all about money. Its why he signed essentially a 3 year deal. Its also why wade, melo, bosh and others followed...it made economic sense. More income is better for a players economy, lol. It also shows how little the media knows about contracts or motivation. Being in finance myself, I can tell you how liittle the main stream media knows about the economy, so I wouldnt expect the sports media to understand the contracts. If they did, they would be makin 3 million a year being a gm, not mid 6 figures as a talking head on espn or such.

Other thing is we are better off signing LBJ, then signing a free agent. The cap hold will be greater than his first year salary, so we would have more money under the salary cap if we sign him first. Firther, if we do get a star to come to cleveland, they would want to see Lebron committed long term I would imagine before signing. Unsigned players verbally commit but still jump ship to greener pastures. Ask Boozer or Brand for example.

I hope this clears it up some. Any more questions I will do my best to answer with the knowledge I have. Remember, I am not a NBA GM....I just play one on message boards, lol :chuckles:

You got some of your numbers wrong starting with the cap which is not 65 million at this current time, i believe it is around 58.7m and is probably projected to be close to 65m in a couple of seasons.....

Thats why you should never do numbers off your head..salary cap is 55.6 milion, its the tax threashhold that is 65 million...The cap went up 1 million dollars, so in 2 years maybe the cap will be 60 million...making his starting salary 18 million a year, stillmore than the 17.1. As long as the cap is 57 million or more, he will atleast break even over his current scheduled salaray. Thanks for pointing that out. :D

Well second tier player........ Shaq. He will be looking to retire, so if we sign him to a one year and he gets the favour of the fans then he is a shoe in to be a curator of the RNR hf.

Can you imagine having Richardso0n, Battier, and Chandler on the same team? Then imagine having one of them on a team with LBJ and Mo. Now just imagine having all three, plus LBJ and Mo. That right there is the most dominant team in NBA hsitory. I love the positive 2010 talk (as in not LeBron leaving) the options are endless, I guarantee we won't even be thinking of the player/s that we get, or if we get any.

I was right, its 58.68m and the luxury tax threshold is 71.15m.....

http://ballhype.com/story/sources_nba_sets_salary_cap_for_next_season_at_58_68/

The NBA salary cap for the 2008-09 season will be $58.68 million, ESPN.com has learned. The figure was arrived at after daylong consultations between lawyers for the NBA and the players' union. The luxury tax threshold will be $71.15 million, and the value of the mid-level exception will be $5.585 million. Over-the-cap teams can only offer the mid-level exception to free agents

Realistically, and without the rose coloured fan goggles what are the chances that LBJ leaves Cleveland to go to Pheonix to play with Amare, Shaq, and Steve Nash?

Not sure they would have the cap space with nash and amare on the books.
