Why is everyone on this board so high on Otto Porter? The way I see it there are two legitimate perennial all-stars in this draft and Porter isn't one of them.

Noel, and...who else? McLemore? I'm not sold. Having Waiters already on the team will hinder the development of one or the other.

The thing with Porter is that even though he isn't great in any particular area, he is competent at every facet of the game and has no glaring weaknesses. Porter is the safest pick in a draft full of question marks. He fits the Cavs perfectly.

Who do you think has the high ceilings in the draft?

Re: Tankapalooza - Home Stretch Edition!

yes real helpful because the cavs are now one less win from the t wolves as opposed to one less win than the t wolves.

That the Kings have put together some wins this week has pushed them up with the Sixers and Raptors, and now SAC, PHI, TOR, and probably WAS have started to establish some separation from the bottom 7 teams.

Yes, tonight's game didn't change things for the T-Wolves, but the T-Wolves have the most games remaining of all of the bottom 7 teams, also the most home games left, and the best home record to date. They will have their opportunity to get some wins, but winning on the road is not their specialty.

Porter's also looking good with the advanced stats in that he's sitting around a 28 PER or so in his 2nd year while having elite size at the small forward, which Grant and company probably love. He can also shoot and pass, both of which will immensely help out this team.

Noel also fits this team well in that he can pass well for a big man in addition to being that shot-blocking presence down low that we need. It'd be nice if this ACL is nothing to worry about and we drafted him.

Re: Tankapalooza - Home Stretch Edition!

Noel would be ideal imo. Huge upside, only 18 years old, assuming we get Greg Oden and he can play even just a little bit we would have an almost unstoppable future frontcourt of Varejao/Noel/Oden/Thompson/Zeller. (assuming good health and development)

I feel like if you are sitting there at 3 or 4 and McLemore is somehow there you have to take him. I prefer drafting not necessarily on need but the best player available within limitations. Obviously if you have an superstar PG like Kyrie Irving I am not saying draft Marcus Smart if you think he is a stud. But if you have a position on your team that you could improve I say do it.

I understand that we have Waiters but can you confidently say that he is an Allstar type talent? If the Cavs are not completely sold on him after one season I wouldn't be upset by any means with a Mclemore pick. Worst case scenario we would have some competition for the starting SG position and one of them would be the first off the bench.

After watching more and more highlights and college games I am more impressed with Anthony Bennett than Otto Porter. I value athleticism in the NBA and that is what I could argue is Porter's greatest weakness. By sheer athleticism alone I feel like his ceiling is higher.

1. I'm not convinced McLemore is even on Bradley Beal's (go ahead, bring up college stats...I know he was worse, but he had the worst pair of passing guards in the NCAA on his leam last year) level in terms of a prospect, and Beal is actually younger than him.
2. Waiters has definitely shown he has All Star caliber talent when he is playing well.
3. If athleticism was everything in the NBA, Anthony Randolph, Javale McGee, Tyrus Thomas, Brandon Wright, etc. would be running the league. Sure, athleticism is nice, but I'd rather have a player that is able to play basketball. Bennett is great sure, but where the hell does he play in the NBA? He's not a SF, never will be. He's also an awful defender. Yeah, I'd be more impressed with him too, just because "he can jump really high!".

Re: Tankapalooza - Home Stretch Edition!

I am not suggesting that a thread called Tankapalooza is somehow sacrosanct, but talk about specific NBA prospects is probably better placed in the NBA Draft forum (or the main NBA Draft thread: http://realcavsfans.com/showthread.php?39907-2013-NBA-Draft).

I'm not planning to patrol this, but wanted to point out that we have a Draft forum to discuss specific prospects also.

Eventually we'll move the main Draft Thread to the Cavs Talk to give it more visibility.

Apologies...I never usually side track in threads, but I had to say something to that.

You didn't side track anything. You just kept going along the side track. :chuckles:

I think the line is ambiguous here, and it's going to get more ambiguous as the Cavs draft position comes even further into view. So it's not a huge deal. I just wanted to remind everyone that in-depth discussion of prospects is already going on elsewhere.

What wuck's trying to say is "get the fuck on over to the 2013 NBA Draft thread, assholes." :chuckles:

Re: Tankapalooza - Home Stretch Edition!

Thought I saw "Cavs Tank" instead of"Cavs Talk" after I got up this morning off 2 hrs of sleep..

.. but hey, I guess here in this thread those are the same thing! The tank is strong with this one.

Re: Tankapalooza - Home Stretch Edition!

Wolves up by 28 at halftime in Phoenix. How is that even possible?

Re: Tankapalooza - Home Stretch Edition!

I found this in the Boobie thread, but it really belongs here, so I'm posting it here:

Haven't opened Photoshop since over a year, but I'm inspired. :chuckles:

Leading the TANK!

And look who's riding shotgun...

Quinn asserted his dominance early tonight with a turnover and foul in his first 13 seconds of game time. That takes a special amount of suck so I had to throw him in.

Can't believe that the two played minutes together tonight against the Rockets. Our tank has absolutely no shame.

Anyhow, the tank was definitely revived tonight. I think our best days of this season winning-wise and basketball-wise are behind us. It's time to embrace the tank. Tonight's game looked more like what we remember over the past two years where we were horribly blown out repeatedly. It won't be pretty, but, if this is what it takes to get our last big piece, then so be it. Just a handful more games, and we'll be ready to win for next season! :D

God tonight's loss was ugly. As much as I'm for the tanking it's terrible to watch games like that. Great day for the tank though, Utah losses, LA hopefully wins with Pau Pau n Kobe back, Hornets won, and I guess I wanted the Suns to win but Wolves will so it's push either way.
