Re: Tankapalooza - Home Stretch Edition!

I'm all for tanking and not picking up meaningless wins, but Byron's gotta at least try and develop TT and Zeller now. This is their chance to get more use on the offensive end... and they finished with 25min and 6 shots, and 20min and 3 shots.

Re: Tankapalooza - Home Stretch Edition!

The cavs will never have a post game with all the chuckers. It's like the shaq mo Williams experiment. The post touches turned in mo Williams jump shots that led to animosity.

Yeah maybe the shot selection suffered from some Shaq-Williams syndrome, but they each deserved more minutes. It's not like we had a realistic shot at winning this game and there's no one else on this roster (that's not injured) we're trying to develop

Re: Tankapalooza - Home Stretch Edition!

Wizards win, Wolves win, Hornets win. The Lakers lost to Washington, but after Milwaukee and Utah both lost, I was rooting for a Wizards victory. Tonight was great.

Alas, Toronto did not win, nor, more importantly, did the two teams that we needed to win most: Phoenix and Detroit. They're only a half-game ahead of us. We're still in danger of slipping very, very fast with even one or two wins. We mustn't let it happen.

Luke Walton won't allow that to happen, nor will Boobie, Speights, Quinn or Casspi

Nor will Tyler Zellers defense down low.

Re: Tankapalooza - Home Stretch Edition!

Pistons finally win a game... it was about friggin time!

Re: Tankapalooza - Home Stretch Edition!

I thought for sure the tank was dead, we brought in a viable bench, TT and Dion picked up their games, and Kyrie was playing at All-Star heights. Hell it was even rubbig off on Zeller. We were looking at .500 ball the rest of the way and working up to the 9th-11th seeds (in the lottery) and LA was playing like crap giving us a likely 10th and 30th pick combo. Only a few weeks later and we've managed to lose some close ones, Kyrie is likely shut down for the rest of the season, and we're back to controlling our own destiny in the 3rd seed. Yes, there is plenty of basketball to be played, but its amazing to have made it this far this fast. Byron has managed to show us enough of a glimpse of what life could be like that we're all pretty satisfied now watching him perform his master stroke. Maybe all this losing drives down the prices of some of these guys a bit too and we can retain the bench bunch for next year to pair with a couple nice draft picks and Andy. I feel bad for doubting the tank, props to those who kept the faith

Re: Tankapalooza - Home Stretch Edition!

Here's some news from fellow tankers--

Raptors take a page from the Cavs play book. Sit all the guys that can score.

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/9091507/toronto-raptors-likely-discuss-shutting-rudy-gay-down
Rudy Gay on Saturday missed his third game this month with back problems, and Toronto Raptors coach Dwane Casey said he assumes the organization will discuss shutting the team's leading scorer down.

Perhaps Frank thinks tanking is intelligent ?

http://www.mlive.com/pistons/index.ssf/2013/03/detroit_pistons_andre_drummond_13.html
Detroit Pistons rookie center Andre Drummond participated in team-related activities at Monday's shootaround for the first time since he was sidelined by a back injury.Pistons coach Lawrence Frank, after nearly two weeks away from the team, said Drummond's progress was noticeable and "he got up and down the court a little bit" Monday morning, before a 119-82 loss to the Brooklyn Nets. "I think any time you start to reintegrate a guy with your team, that's a positive thing," Frank said. "I think he's definitely on the right track. Obviously, we've been very conservative with this for very intelligent reasons. I think we'll just continue ... to up his work level every day."

And in other news, Chris Quinn wasn't the only move in the tank arms race--

http://www.nola.com/hornets/index.ssf/2013/03/new_orleans_hornets_sign_guard_4.html
The New Orleans Hornets announced Monday that they'd signed guard Terrell Harris to a second 10-day contract.

Re: Tankapalooza - Home Stretch Edition!

Magic Numbers:

How to measure magic #:
  1. Start with the full season's worth of games (82).
  2. Add a tie-breaker (+ 1) if necessary (83).
  3. Compare the team you want to be better than (or worse than) a specific team.
    1. Ex. You want the Cavs to be worse than the Phoenix Suns.
    2. Ex. You want the Lakers to be better than the Utah Jazz.
  4. Take the Cavs loss totals, add the Suns win totals, subtract the total from the season AND tie-breaker (83) to the get the result.
  5. You do the same for the Lakers, except add the Lakers win totals and the Jazz loss totals and subtract 83 to get the result.
  6. Whatever the higher number is (a team's added wins or losses), that's the true magic number.

The tie breaker for lottery seeds and draft position is a coin flip. Not sure how that figures in here.

Ah, the Coin Flip. I remember that from last year. Never thought .1% would make that much of a difference, but it sure did.

Re: Tankapalooza - Home Stretch Edition!

Sometimes the coin flip gives a +.1%, lottery but other times it doesn't. That's not what I'm talknig about.

For lottery teams, the big deal is that it decides your base seed. For example if 2 teams tie in the lottery and niether wins the lottery then the coin flip loser drops one spot in the draft. If 4 teams are tied, there will be a bunch of coin flips and the overall coin flip loser moves down 3 draft spots if none of those teams win the lottery. It can really move people around if there are a bunch of equally matched tankers this year.

It also affects non-lottery teams. Suppose Houston and GS end up with the same record, but Houston has the playoff seeding tie breaker. That doesn't mean that GS automatically gets a better draft pick. The coin flip happens here too. Houston could end up with a better playoff seed and a better draft pick.

I'm talking about a better record to get the better seed permanently. Tie-breakers was a figure of speech word. Why don't you come up with a better word then?
