The 2015 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Whoa there...struggling? Soto vs. LHB this year: 16.1 IP, 14 H, 3 ER, 18 K, .233 avg, 1.65 ERA...if that is struggling, a lot of people struggle in baseball.

Problem right now is he seems to have lost his control a bit. 4 BB in his last 1.1 innings pitched.
Soto has scuffled a bit the last two months, although the #s vs. Lefties look fine enough to give him a shot. I think both end up here by the end of the month.

It all goes back to control with him, though. The months he struggled (June, a little in July, and August so far) he walked 7 in 13 IP, 5 in 8.1 IP, and 3 in 1 IP so far in August. He lost his command. Guy had 9 BB his 1st 22 IP this year, has had 15 in his last 22.1 IP. 6 additional base runners is a big deal when you throw a limited amount of innings.

+ Shawn Armstrong and Abraham Almonte up from AAA
- Tyler Holt optioned to AAA
- Cody Anderson to 15 Day DL w/ L Oblique Strain

Tomlin about to get his start.

Yeah, I was wondering who was going to take Anderson's spot. Murata and Marcum are off the 40 man. Might as well kick the tires on Tomlin and see if he has anything left since we're out of it anyways.

Ryan Merritt is the only other healthy starter currently on the 40 man. He's got a 3.63 ERA and only 15 walks in 134 innings in Akron this year. Probably not somebody we'll see until September though. He's only 23.

Merritt is a lefty, so he has a shot, but I'm really wary of guys with low K rates. Same reason I'm hesitant to pencil Cody Anderson into next year's rotation. Merritt has really low walk totals, but that 5.8 K/9 in AA is a red flag to me.

Not great news regarding the Kipnis injury:

"There's more to it," said Kipnis. "If they're not going to tell you, I'm not going to say anything. The MRI obviously found something. So we're going to take it slow and do the right stuff."

When asked if he would need surgery at the end of the year, Kipnis leaned into his locker and knocked on one of the wooden walls.

"We hope not," he said. "It's one of those ones where it could be. I don't think so. We're taking these steps now so we don't have to do that."

Looks like the Tribe could be losing Assistant GM Mike Chernoff. Peter Gammons called him the 'name to beat' for the Brewers GM vacancy. I know he's turned down a number of GM interviews in the past.....

So were 5.5 GB

Our remaining schedule:
Yankees : 4
Twins: 9
Red Sox: 3
Cubs : 1
Brewers: 2
Angels: 3
Blue Jays: 3
Tigers: 7
White Sox: 6
Royals: 7

All the AL teams are ahead of us in the standings, minus Boston, but everyone that is highlighted is between us and a WC game. Its not over, but we cannot afford a prolonged losing streak.

The Indians and TJ House settled a grievance from earlier in the year.

The Indians placed him on the Major League DL, retroactive to May 1. He'll get paid the big league salary.

The Major League option was rescinded for House, so he'll have an option left next season.
