The 2015 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Are you factoring in what the three players are respectively still owed in 2015? My quick math has Bourn/Swisher making about 7.5M more than Johnson over the rest of this season, assuming not all of their contracts have been paid out yet.

Haven't heard definitively where the balance of that money is going to be carried. It's omitted for now, it's entirely possible the Braves could be picking up that tab as well.

What about their vested options in 2017?

The Braves will never let them be reached.

They made this deal to clear up salary in the long term. Getting Swisher and Bourn off the books in 2017, instead of spreading out that cost like the Indians are doing, is more appealing to them for various reasons.

The main reason is that they don't have a roster that can win in 2016, while the Indians do.

So this shows that the FO believes that we can still contend next year and is looking to make some moves this offseason.

However, isn't this FA class pretty weak for hitters?

Very, and I don't anticipate they're going to be very active in looking to lock themselves into a similar deal for a veteran free agent.

They have to be in contention mode, they got a bunch of good pitchers locked in on good contracts. No point in wasting that.

Re-building makes no sense, they're just going to re-tool. Getting rid of dead weight is a starting point.

If anything, it gives them more room to acquire a player in a trade making a fair bit of money.

I think it's worth looking more at 2017 free agents, guys who they could make a play for in the off-season who will be a year away from free agency.

Short term production as they wait on young guys.

So what rosters do you look at? A's, Rays, Marlins, etc? Or just any player who is a FA in 2017 and not playing in a huge market?

I came as soon as I heard. I sped down US-30 so I could get to my computer as soon as possible.

Farewell threads coming soon.

Came on RCF or...came came?

I can't help but think we see Ramirez in the OF once Kipnis returns. He's played it in the minors.

I think Johnson platoons with Lonnie in RF immediately and spell Gio at 3B from time to time. Should make Raburn a goner next year.

Atlanta rejoices.

I'm not all knowing on how the MLB Trade Deadline and all of that works, so can somebody explain to me how this was possible since the deadline has passed?

Did Swisher, Bourn, and Johnson all have to clear waivers?
