#Indians confirm the trade: Michael Bourn, Nick Swisher and cash have been sent to Atlanta for Chris Johnson.

Is it? Seems much smaller in yearly average and he's produced way better than swisher over the past two years.
Johnson's deal is 1.5 (2.5 if you want to include the buyout that will happen in 2018) million more than the remaining year for Swisher's, and that's over 2 years for a player who can actually play.
That was my bad, I thought Johnson had significantly more total.

We didn't give up a single prospect and unloaded our 2 worst contracts by a long shot...FIRE SHAPIRO AND ANTONETTI!!!!!

Seriously, it cost Arizona Touki Toussaint to unload Bronson Arroyo's deal earlier this year...this feels like a huge coup.

Hope this means we get to see Naquin for the rest of the year when he is reactivated.

Hopefully this makes us much more aggressive buyers in the offseason trade market on guys like Ozuna. We have a lot of farm depth and talent starting to stack up. Let's use some of those guys to add a significant bat or two that is under 28, rather than repeat the mistakes of the Bourne and Swisher FA contracts.

Is Chris Johnson good?

I'm a little confused, but only because the deadline had passed, and this didn't seem to be waivers. I assume this trade was agreed to before the deadline on some conditions for Swisher's health?

Ozuna would perfectly fill the need for an underperforming overpriced bat on this team.

Is Chris Johnson good?
I assume he's just a halfway decent professional bat on the Raburn/Murphy level. Nothing to get excited about beyond what clearing off the Swisher and Bourne salaries hopefully embolden us to do in the offseason.

Other teams had to tie prospects to bad contracts this year to move them, so I think some of the excitement is just moving Bourne and Swisher while getting a decent placeholder and giving up no prospects.

How is Johnsons defense? And is he only a 3B?

How much room does this create to help get some offense next year?

Glad the books are being cleaned from Swish/Bourn, but hopefully this means the Indians are focused on getting someone worth hitting cleanup next summer.

Not sure these moves will be related to any offseason player movement, one way or another. Just good business to save a couple million in cash money.

Still more likely to deal from the MLB team to get a bat than tap into the minor league prospect pool, IMO.

I mean... Johnson hit .321/12 HR/68 RBI in 2013. He was a very good hitter.
