The Andre Drummond Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Grant's regime looks worse and worse by the day. Again...he'll be on top 10 lists one day.

... and they're 7-0 after beating the Mavs. I have to admit, Drummond might not be much of a defender or an offensive player or have a good basketball IQ or a shooting touch, but he might be one of the best rebounders in NBA history.

Wilt Chamberlain's best season was in his rookie year with 20.9rpg PER36.
Drummond has upped his rebounding to 15.7rpg PER36 this season.

You could also argue that Wilt's competition was much less athletic or physically imposing than what Drummond is facing.

I'm not a fan of Drummond, but I have to say he's a beast rebounder.

You're a bit behind, that was last year's knock on him.

He's currently 6th in the league in defensive rating and 7th in defensive win share, and that includes the rough stretch he had at the start of the year.

He has been down right dominant of late, and is no longer considered a weak defender.

Besides, big men traditionally are slower to develop, and he doesn't even turn 22 until August. He's just a baby still, but his development is right on track

I wouldn't go that far. His opponents are still shooting slightly better than their season averages against him. Meaning, not only does he NOT AFFECT his opponents shooting percentages, he actually lets them shoot slightly better. Here are some OPP FG% differentials, anything with a plus sign in front of it is considered BAD:

Andre Drummond: +1.2%
Jonas Valanciunas: +1.9%
Dirk Nowitzki: +2.8%
Carmelo Anthony: +2.9%
...
Luke Babbitt: +5.4%
...
Kyrie Irving: +2.7%
Mike Miller: +3.8%
Kevin Love: +2.8%
Timofey Mozgov: +1.3%
LeBron James: -0.6%
...
Tim Duncan: -5.3%
Joakim Noah: -4.6%
Donatas Motiejunas: -5.3%
Draymond Green: -5.4%
Anthony Davis: -4.6%
Marc Gasol: -3.6%
Andre Iguodala: -3.4%
Kawhi Leonard: -2.7%

He's still a force of nature, but did Drummond improve at all this year? He still doesn't seem to move the team much in the win/loss column.

How does someone start as that bad throw shooter but only get worse each year?

Scrub had a 20/20 game. He still has to prove he can hang with NBA starters they say.

Looking forward to when we play Detroit and see how our front court matches up with them. We've had the paint on lockdown so far and really set a high standard for interior defense and play in general so it's going to be interesting to see how we stack up against Drummond.

Will you be doing this after every game?

I think everyone acknowledges Drummond is a better player than Dion. Is that what you want? Or would you like some sort of blood redemption because a fired NBA GM and possibly some posters on the Internet, many whom were likely teenagers, were wrong in 2012?

Yeah, I wanted Drunmond too. And Oladipo. And Jabari Parker. Who cares?

If I feel like it. It's the Andre Drummond thread. If you don't like it, don't click on it.

Three straight double doubles to open the season and most importantly 3 wins while anchoring the defense. Waiting for someone to post an advanced stat that says Drummond is more of a liability when he's on the court...

The kid has impoved so much. He needed either better footwork on offense or some kind of go to move. His jump hook has become the go to move. Add his slowly improving free throw form, and he is cementing himself as the second or third best from he draft class.

There were 11 total posts in this thread in 2015 before you began calling out the mysterious "they" and "someone". All of the 11 posts were pro-Drummond too. I don't mind you posting if you like to talk about Drummond, but this bizarre anti-Andre bogeyman you have created doesn't seem to exist anymore. Drummond has won. If you like him, I would advise you enjoy his games, and not try to prove his worth to a nebulous enemy. Drummond is a beast. Everyone knows that. Literally nobody is debating that or has in over a year.

Just trying to save you some time. But I suppose I am equally wasting mine by replying to this...

He still looks the same to me. We get this hype every year. When the Pistons are struggling to wins 40 games once again, maybe the brain dead will learn.

  • I think Grant made the right decision at that time.
rather happy with the lineup we have
who would you get rid of to keep drummond

  • Kyrie Irving
  • Lebron James
  • Kevin Love
Drummond has benefited from getting a Coach who forced him to expand the game.

but Drummond so far is shooting 41% and is a close 2nd in FTA per game at which he so far is shooting 58%. which accounts for 30% of his points.

Marcus Morris is flourishing in the hedo role and im still more willing to give Credit to SVG for this start than Drummond.

However it also demonstrates that what was said about Drummond in the past was correct.

Overall Im pleased with SVG making Drummond shoot from 3-10 feet but its gonna be a process to get Drummond where he needs to be as a centerpiece franchise player who can compete for championships.
