The Dog Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Cooper had a rug slip from under his legs last night and hit one hind leg on some furniture. Limited but sleep normally, he woke up semi limping; he tries and does out weight on it and has walked on it and jogged. Saddened when t the entire night passed and he still was limping but he went down the stairs ok and he even walked on it some more. Obviously he doesn't liked being helped on the couch but his attitude is the same and there seems to be nothing outwardly wrong with his leg. My mom says since he is trying to walk on it on a consistent basis and he didn't fall it's probably a bruise

Edit: walking more and more on it and got on the couch by himself. I think it just hurts and nothing more.

You could try picing up her food before she has eaten it all then put it back down again. Teaches them to be patient.

My fiance's son has grabbed some of our dog's treats and toys on occasion when she is playing with them and she can be pissy about it, so we have to do that from time to time.

That may not be the problem though.

I think this is the way to go too. It's your food, and you let her eat when you want.

Make sure she is sitting, and stays sitting while you are putting the food in the bowl. If she starts running around or jumping on you... stop. Stop, stare at her, step away from the bowl. Keep staring at her til she sits or lays down.

Wait a few more seconds, then go back to putting the food in the bowl. If she gets up or starts jumping, repeat the drill.

She also needs to stay seated when you put the bowl down, and until you tell her "ok". Otherwise, put the bowl back on the counter, stare at her, etc.

Once she starts eating, after about 2-3 seconds, pick the bowl up. Remember, it's your food and you control it. You own the food, not her.

If she lets you take the food, good. Make sure your wife can take the bowl at any time too. If you or your wife can't, put the dog in time out. Let her sit for 1-2 minutes, then start all over from scratch. Tough in the morning when things are rushed, but you gotta teach her who is in charge of the food.

My dog got skunked last night. Dog shampoo isn't getting the job done. Any recommendations?

We took some Spring photos with the dogs a couple weeks ago. We only really get like a week or two of winter over here. 50 degrees or so is what I mean by winter.

Damn lol mine got sprayed this morning

Baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and dish soap is the combo that I used. Worked very well except his head still smells because you can't get that mixture in their eyes.

he has bursts of energy where his leg seems fine, chasing his tail and going up and down steps. Mainly when he is laying down and forgets it hurts and then gets up but he is still limping more often than not. It's not swollen or discolored and he lets me pet it and it's not affecting his personality at all. We still think it's sore but not broken or sprained or anything. He still mainly lays on that side too so he is always putting his whole body weight on it when laying down. Am I weird to wait a little longer to see if it gets better? It's gonna better in a week just not completely healed.

Not the manliest dog out there, but here is my little guy as a pup:

Been thinking a lot about getting a dog recently. Any suggestions for good breeds to look at? (I live in an apartment)

Boxer for sure. Best dog breed. They're smart, generally get along with both people and other dogs, don't shed much (and have short fur anyway), and are typically pretty lazy when they're inside (after the puppy stage, naturally), but have a lot of energy when you take them outside. They also act like clowns a lot of the time.

You might consider a small breed

I just got two puppies this year. both were mixed with chihuaus ones a shitzu the other some type of bull dog. I think they call it a frenchie.

When we lived in an apartment we just had our Pomeranian a breed that tends to Bark alot if you let them get away with it.

be careful though if you have kids cause some of the small breeds even though they do alot less damage arent as kid friendly as some of the bigger breeds
If you do get a big breed plan to walk it alot. they need to run and get exercise
