Wife and I had to put down our yellow lab this morning, one of the toughest things that I have had to do in a long time. She was 12 years old and was struggling with some serious hip and digestive issues, it wasn't fair to her to keep her around for our benefit.

It's amazing to see how attached they can become. This dog was, in every sense of the word, a part of our family. I'm man enough to admit that I sobbed like a damn baby when I said goodbye to her. She has been more than a dog to us, she has been a companion and friend. I feel like I'm not alone, especially after looking at some of the pictures and reading some of the comments that many of you have left about your dog(s).

I don't know why I posted this in here, just in a really bummed mood right now. I'll post pictures of her in the near future. Sorry to drag down the mood in here

This is Arya, We've had her for about 6 months now. Adopted from a shelter. Still working on breaking her bad habits (was never potty trained) but shes a sweetheart and we love her :)

I hope you guys had a good last day. I'm sorry for your loss. I would be devastated if i had to make that decision with my pets. You know you did the right thing. And while she was here you gave her the best you could.

Yeah. It's much easier when it's sudden rather than when you know it's going to happen, at least it was for me. It was a struggle to look at her over the last couple of days knowing that we had to do this. She loved to swim, so we took her swimming the last couple days and gave her a steak dinner last night. She also got a couple rawhides (which she hasn't been able to eat) and a trip to McDonalds.

Sorry to hear that, man. Hope you're doing okay.

Sorry for your loss @Akron330 ; seriously, I know how it feels to lose a pet like this... I've had to do it myself.. It's tough.

Sorry for your loss @Akron330....I cannot even imagine what that would be like. I have kind of an odd situation with a pet, it is my fiancee's dog but we have shared custody between us and her mother (previously mother + step father) for the last three years or so. I've grown to love the little guy. Never thought I would like a stupid little Pomeranian yapping ankle biter but what can I say. Any time I read about someone else having to part ways with their dog I think about it with our dog and I get all teary eyed.

I'm out of town tonight and my fiancee has been sending me pictures of him waiting by the door for me to come home for three hours now :(.

So we are considering adopting a 1-2 year old husky/shepherd mix (38 lbs) who, as the ad claims, is "very shy". Apparently he was just dumped or found somewhere.

Could this be an indicatin that he was abused and as a result has some hidden aggressive behaviors? What can we do to make sure he doesn't? I figure stuff like pulling on his ears/tail while playing with him, trying to take food away while he's eating, introducing him to other dogs...

Anyone have any recommendations on finding a 6-8 week old German Sheppard pup in the Cleveland/Lake County area? My family is finally cool with getting a dog and I'm pretty damn excited.
