The fans are hurting the team

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I have never been one to push playing time for Luke Jackson. To me he wasn't a natural guy to play off the ball and be a scorer/shooter. Luke looks more comfortable with a little more responsibility. However early in the season with Larry, LeBron and Ilgauskas, Lukes role was to play off the ball and shoot. He didn't really prove that he can play in this vein. This is why I preached Sasha Pavlovic for this role. Sasha was a guy who was more accustomed and to me more effective at this role.

As we all know now, Larry is injured and his skillset has not been replaced in any facet by Jones. Larry could handle the ball, and score in different fashions, as well as distribute. Does this sound a little like a scouting report of Luke Jackson when we drafted him? The Cavaliers are looking for another on ball player with Larry out, something which Luke was very successful at in Oregon.

The roles have changed for Jackson, and this time it should suit his game. Coach Brown should be working him into the rotation. It will decrease the load on LeBron which has to be a plus.

On a side note: need to run the pick and roll with Lebron and Z more often - both run it well and Z can knock down that midrange jumper in his sleep. Needs to be donw as Z knows he will get the ball back from lebron if he passes out of the double team

i agree. it is not the cavs fault, it is the fans fault. darn fans, screwing up our season this way with booing and lack of energy.

i think that the media is also to blame. not very many people have actually heard damon jones say that he's the best shooter in the world. most of us only know about that statement because the media reported it. darn media, screwing up our season by reporting on what players say. and even then, damon never said that he's the best at making shots, just taking them, so maybe we should all just lower our expectations.

i also blame the schedule makers, forcing us to play all those home games where fans with unreasonable expectations boo. we have been forced to endure 19 home games and only 13 on the road. how unfair! it will be so much easier for us to play on the road away from our aggitated cavalier fans.

hope a reporter asks LeBron: "Hey, the fans are booing Damon Jones, so we can expect you're probably leaving as soon as that contract is up, right ?"

which is when, in like three more seasons after this one?

it amazes me that so many people are ragging on jones now that the team is losing, while they were on his banned wagon when we were winning. jones is shooting .367 from three point country. does this surprise anyone? that is a typical average for him. face it, he is all ours for three more seasons. if this was high school he'd be a freshman.

before he leaves the cavs he'll have played on several allstar teams. or so he thinks.

Cleveland fans are just... bitter. Everyone that comes in as a shooter better not get into a slump.. because both the fans at the games and sportswriters/talkers will give them no daylight.

That's what happened with Jeff McInnis. He did have defensive deficiencies, but they did not get shown in the limelight until he went into a shooting slump. Last season, in November, he was a remarkable 40% from 3, with continued success in December. But then he started slumping and got criticized, and turned his own back on Cleveland.

Remember Jiri Welsch? After that kid missed his first shot, he was booed by the crowd.

Everyone here in Cleveland gets booed. Tim Couch cried about it, and he's gone.

It's a tough city. But I remember, last year in the beginning, when we lost 3 in a row... then played Phoenix. The crowd was booing in the 3rd quarter, when we were down 19. We came back and won in overtime. In the post game interview, I remember him playing the 4th quarter.. for the crowd. He was distraught that they were booing, and used that energy to mount a comeback. We need to harness that energy in a similar fashion, and keep that going, not falling flat in the waning minutes...

That's right... We're the real GM'S

Damn straight. Try to prove me wrong. I dare you.

i guess no one should show up then

I'm sorry. This isn't Jr. High sports or the Special Olympics where you're supposed to cheer for everyone and no matter what. If the team or a player is playing like crap or giving a half ass effort then they will get booed.
Karma got it right earlier. Damon Jones is to blame for his own problems. When you talk and brag a lot and then can't back it up then you will get criticized. Even before his huge slump many fans were already questioning his ability.

The crowds at the Q aren't the greatest. It is a heavily corporate crowd many of whom don't really care about the game or have strong basketball knowledge. The crowds have been worse since the Cavs left the Coliseum.

I'm all for supporting the team but there are times when the team or a certain player(s) deserve criticism. The crowd is not responsible for the Cavs recent play. The players and coaches are.

This is a great thread. Yeah most of the responsibility lies with the coaches and players, but the fans are still a factor. DJones deserves his Boos (esp after airballing a wide open trey). Was Z really booed for missing a free throw? Were players booed during pregame introduction? That is horrible.

Im from C-Bus, and i dont know the vibe from sports fans of C-Town. But it seems to me to be a pessimistic sports city. The fans are a factor no doubt. If the majority of fans are down on the team, it will effect the team. Its like a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you doubt this you doubt the power of collective consciousness.....

What would happen if Cleveland sports fans always supported their teams, players, and believed in the teams no matter what? One pessimistic fan alone is not much of a factor. But thousands of pessimistic fans will definitely rub off onto the team. My performance would suffer if i was booed by people while working. The Cavs have LeBron James on the team, the Chosen One. That alone should make all fans cheer for the Cavaliers....

How can CLEVELAND sports fans NOT be pessimistic?

The BROWNS have NEVER been to the Super Bowl....and have sucked for 20+ years in a row. The owner STOLE the team from the city and now the new regime, though getting better, tends to alienate the OLD SCHOOL Browns fans and players.

The INDIANS DID go to the World Series twice. One out from winning it and blew it the second time. Then ALL the good players were traded or just not paid for. Now we are trying to win with second tier players and rookies. The players we took a chance on, and came through, we let go this year in free agency. So even though we did well last year......our team is going to be fairly NEW! Why? Because of a cheap owner.

The CAVS never have been to the finals. Jordan kicked us in the nuts twice. After those teams we never seemed to try and get any other winners. The team has been built on the cheap since the Mark Price years. Sure some of those teams busted their asses, but they could only do so much. Now we have a better team and a better owner(so it seems). There is HOPE in CAVS land.

Sure can't see why we are pessimistic.

I was at the game, tuesday, there was no booing during the intros. There were only light boos for damon vs the knicks. The crowd lightly cheered. There was nothing to go crazy about, maybe not every fan is a rah rah kinda person. who needs to stand up the entire game and yell their head off.

Now I definately don't get your, "What would happen if Cleveland sports fans always supported their teams, players, and believed in the teams no matter what?"

Are you serious? Fans can't express their displeasure and opinions on players and teams. Have you ever heard of the cleveland browns? the most passionate fans in the word and look how terrible we've been. You know modell moved the team to balitmore right? Cleveland has supported the browns through tick and thin.

Cleveland is first and foremost a browns town. Football is #1

It's just unbelievable. Here we are at 20-12 - the 2nd best record in the east. We've beaten the Heat, Pacers and Pistons, we've lost to the Hawks, Rockets and Knicks. What was the biggest difference between the Pistons win and the Knicks loss. It's not the loss of Larry Hughes, it's not the play of Damon Jones, it's the lack of support from the fans at the game..

Now I haven't complained a single time about the cavs, being 20-12, damon jones being a cancer or blowing up on this team like many have.

It's frustrating yes, to lose to the Rockets, Knicks and Hawks. But I'm not going to blow a fuse over it. It's basketball, we should be playing better yes, but teams are exposing our weaknesses. We have no legitamte backup sg/sf or c for that matter.

We need someone who can slash besides lebron and larry or someone who can actually hit a mid range shot. Jones is a 3pt shooter, that's it, that's no surprise to any of us. Brown is starting him outta place at the 2 spot.

I blame these losses on the staff and players.

What you saying is the players only play hard b/c the fans get them excited. Man we would have won that game if the fans would have cheered harder. The day a player blames a loss on fans for not cheering enough is the day I'll die.

Players play the game and coaches coach, it's as simple as that. Fans have no outcome on a damn game. These are professional athletes.

The fans do have impact on the game - why do you think home court is worth 3 points? It's not because the players get to sleep in their on beds the night before. I firmly believe that if we had the same energy from the crowd for all games that we had in the Pistons game, we have another win or two at home. In the pistons game, the crowd loudly chanted De-Fense, De-Fense from the opening tip throughout the whole game. That energy helps our players and it puts a little extra pressure on their players.

If the crowd doesn't matter, why to players on the road talk about taking the crowd out of the game. Why do coaches call time out after a big play from the home team to take the crowd out of the game? Why are the Spurs 17-1 at home yet just 10-7 on the road?
