The Glad We Dodged the Bynum Bullet Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
When basketball becomes a job, there are times when you definitely start to dislike it I'm sure. I'm not defending him, but I'm just saying I understand where he is coming from. Unless he has hated it his whole life or something and was forced to do it for some reason. But I love basketball more than anything, but I had the worst possible coach/human being possible my senior year and he took the fun out of the game, so I quit. Hardest thing I ever had to do. But if it isn't something you enjoy, then what is the point? I probably shouldn't be comparing my situation to an NBA players, but I think it applies on whatever level you are on, or whatever you do in life.

yeah but bynum hasn't been in the league that long, has made absurd amounts of money, got to win rings, played his entire career in a top 2 US city....i mean, the situation couldn't be any more perfect. if you can't enjoy that...

now, if he had been in the league longer and spent the entire time in cleveland/milwaukee/indiana/etc losing badly every year...then i could understand a growing disdain for the game.

Bynum's knees were an issue before the trade. How did he pass a physical when traded to Pilly?? All LA had to do to get Dwight was to trade Bynum, McRoberts, Eyenga, and a protected 1st round pick in 2017. How bad did Stern want Howard in LA? I guess bad enough to get everyone to overlook Bynum's physical.

I don't know, but it's looking like Philly either A) didn't do their homework or B) pulled a Gordon Gund and just took someone's word at face value rather than getting all the bases covered.

Giving up the farm for Bynum would have been a disaster.

We don't really have a farm.....

Varejao, and this years first rounder(a likely top 10 pick) is a pretty good start...

With Bynum it would have been top 4 amost guaranteed... You know considering we wouldn't have had Andy who likely gave us at least one win, and now Kyrie's out for a month. Our big man roation would be down to Zeller, Tristan (although I thought he was part of the trade as well), and some god awful scrubs to back them up...

the one big name free agent who did not mind coming here (he didnt, that is different) and boom he is gone.

Pretty much the only way we should make an offer at Bynum is if he declines his player option, and he comes for 8-10 million, if he doesn't play this season. I hope Grant isn't dumb enough to throw 17 million a year at this guy if he misses an entire season because of a bowling injury...

Seriously who gets hurt bowling? I could understand maybe breaking a toe if you dropped the ball on your foot, but a knee injury... I would think there would be more risk in playing table tennis than there is in bowling ffs. Hell even pool has more injury risk than bowling imo. Swimming has more injury risk too... I mean really bowling? That's how you're going to get injured?

Looks like Bynum might have been a fool to not have accepted the extend and trade offer to Cleveland because there is no way he's getting anywhere near that contact in free agency if he doesn't play this season. If he can come back, and play well then he will still get his max money, but I hope to god it isn't from us.

I can still see some team throwing something stupid at him.

How much is too much for Bynum? I'd still like to test the waters, big black physical 7 footers with a post game don't grow on trees.

I would say 10 million would be too much if he doesn't come back this year, 8 million would be too much if he comes back and gets hurt again. Never know though offering him 10 million could turn out to be a steal of a contract if he could ever stay healthy...

I could see a GM with more money than brains trying to make a splash, and offering him the max, only to amnesty him in 2016 when they get a new CBA lol. I really wanted Bynum too, but tbh we all knew he was a monsterous red flag injuries wise, and now Philly knows it too. If he doesn't play at all this year I can't see him not picking up his player option though, unless someone offers him a huge contract. He'll want to prove he can be healthy, and then get the max, and then fall back into injuries.

I was in favor of going after Bynum. Admit I was wrong about that and glad the Cavs didn't make that move.
Of course it was a must to put Bynum though a rigorous hugely in depth physical before agreeing to any deal. Seems Philly screwed up there. With a player with some knee issues you have to judge them a little more harshly and not sign off if there is any sign of current or future problems.

I'd stay away from Bynum now. A guy his size with these now bigger knee problems is a terrible combination.

+1 looks like I was off with Bynum as well. I will say a healthy Bynum on this team and we would go far in the playoffs (Him and AV together in the frontcourt with Zeller and TT off the bench is a hell of a strong frontcourt). Alas healthy and Bynum do not go together apparently.
