The Jimmy Haslam Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This is great for the NFL. Browns already making headlines the day after the Super Bowl and every day since...

And yet, if we had a capable QB, we would have probably won the division and none of this would be a problem.

Is it a problem? Yeah, it is. But I feel that it is also sensationalized some, especially the incredibly low morale. I do think people are having second thoughts to having Haslam as a boss, so he needs to tone it down. The rest of it...nah, not really that huge of a deal, unless the NFL unfairly overpunishes Farmer for being an asshole.

If you gave me 3 billion dollars, I swear I could own a franchise at an average level. Literally all you have to do is let the people you hired do their jobs, and write checks.

I. Don't. Fucking. Get. It.

Maybe because he's always been in charge, Haslam feels he has to be in charge of this too?

Man, this news makes me even more happy he wasn't indicted and suspended before the season. At least the Browns dodged that bullet.

Following up with the last Withers quote about fans always assuming the worst or fall back on the incompetence narrative. Don't get me wrong, the Browns have earned a lot of that criticism they take. However; one of the points from the LaCanfora article is that the front office pushed Johnny on the field despite the coaching staff knowing he's not ready. The narrative was that the front office wanted to see what they had in Manziel and that they need something out of their 1st round QB.

What if that wasn't the motivation. What if the coaching staff and the front office saw how casual Manziel was taking his responsibilities. They surely saw how he was preparing and how he was practicing. They had to see it was substandard. What if they reasoned that by the Cincy game, although they were not mathematically out of it but effectively out of the playoff race, they decided to show Manziel what they've been trying to tell him. That he wasn't preparing nearly enough and that things won't come easy to him at the NFL level, he had to work. What if they made the decision to put him in the game, knowing he would fail, in order to teach him a lesson. In order to wake the kid up and tell him he can't behave like this. Their words wouldn't get through, he had to be hit in the mouth and embarrassed in order to see it.

I'm not saying that is the truth. I'm not saying I've heard that from anyone. I'm just trying to come up with a reasonable explanation for what is going on. Maybe there is no reasonable explanation and it comes down to Haslam being a lunatic. However; I find it hard to believe that anyone around this team that had eyes and ears couldn't see the train wreck that was coming out of Manziel once he was inserted as the starter.

Maybe he has some bias, but worth putting in here..

I love the Browns, and love Cleveland sports, but this is just terrible. Next season is shaping up to be another "rebuild" and then we will continue to nuke everything. I've watched the Browns since the organization rebooted. Since 1999, I count three seasons that have mattered. I am not the biggest Manziel fan. Hell, I actually really dislike the guy and how he handled his rookie season. With that said, I have mad respect for the guy going to rehab and am praying he can become a true face of the franchise. If not, I think we are screwed.

The one positive I keep taking away is that NEOMG wasn't going to let Jimmy Haslam go rogue without reporting it anymore. I don't like the way NEOMG goes scandalous and negative at every opportunity for more internet clicks, but I've thought Haslam needed to be exposed for over a year. It was time.

So our owner sucks, GM sucks, we have no quarterback, our top WR Is banned and probably will never play in the NFL again, our pro Bowl TE is leaving. What else?

Looking for some positives...

We didn't win many games based on our offense last year, and our defense looks ready to return and improve on an impressive outing last year. Our OLine is getting healthy, and we have the potential to have a two-headed monster in the backfield.

Finding WRs isn't the hardest thing to do in the NFL, if they can upgrade QB, they can still be in the hunt for a playoff spot.

(The most optimistic take you can have IMO)

We've been talking about upgrading our QB situation since 99'. Anybody have any other ideas on how to handle it?
