The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread (includes spoilers)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Well I think Yara had to come back eventually to complete whatever her arc is. Euron is likely going to be the final big villain character introduced in the show, and him making an appearance makes a lot of sense (Someone for Yara to interact with, be a villain, the horn, threat, etc...) Still not convinced that the Iron Islands mean a whole lot to the endgame unless they introduced Vicatarion and Aeron. That would grab my attention.

The last thing this show needs is another villain. Give me something to root for. Maybe you are right and their plan is to get the audience invested in Yara? That'll fall flat I think. They'll have to connect this Greyjoy stuff to another major plot line to get people to care about it. Connecting the Euron and Dany plots seems sensible (also maybe we hear about him attacking the reach from Sam's adventures in Oldtown.)

Damn, that tower is one amazing building. This is gonna be a long wait.

Anyone here play TellTale's GOT game? If so, what did you think of episode 5? It was classic season 5.

This is huge. Since the beginning D&D have always held fast to only seven seasons but they are now conceding that they will need eight seasons... "for now"

I guess once they finish the real thing, then I guess a prequel becomes possible but I think D&D are pretty burned out on the project as is. I don't know how I would feel with others at the helm instead of them. They have their flaws, but overall they have produced a spectacular show. I would hate to see it fall into something worse.

here is a link explaining that & more if you want to check it out:

HBO chief talks end of 'Game of Thrones,' says Jon Snow is 'dead'

"Game of Thrones" fans, brace yourselves: The fantasy saga's end is perhaps just a few years away.

HBO programming chief Michael Lombardo said Thursday that the drama series' producers are leaning toward three more seasons after the just-concluded season five.

"I'm always hoping they're going to change their minds, but I think that's what we're looking at right now," Lombardo told a Television Critics Association meeting.

Asked about the possibility of a prequel series, Lombardo said he believed there's "enormous story material" to be mined for such a project. But the focus now of showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss is season six of "Game of Thrones," he said, which is in production now for 2016.

The series came under fire this year for a rape scene involving a bride's assault by her husband on their wedding night.

Lombardo, noting that the drama has included violence as a thread since it started, said the producers are careful about not overstepping boundaries while remaining true to the storytelling.

"I support them fully artistically," he said.

Voters in the TV academy weren't swayed by the controversy, making "Game of Thrones" the most-nominated series last month. It received 24 nods for the September awards, including best drama series.

Lombardo was asked if the popular character of Jon Snow, who appeared to die last season, was actually a goner.

"Dead is dead is dead," said Lombardo, adding, "Everything I've seen, heard and read," Snow is dead.

Well, I can't really see him coming out and spoiling things. Also, I fully agree with him that Jon Snow is dead. I just don't think he'll stay dead, so technically he didn't lie if that's the case.

Or it could be just an HBO producer popping off, hoping they do more seasons.

So slightly related:

Anyone read the shattered sea books by Joe abercrombie? I'm a third through the first book of 3 'half a king'. It's a bit ASOIF lite. I would summise it as a story of if sam tarly was a skinny one armed boy king of the iron born. And on a quest for revenge.

I just finished the third book yesterday. All three are really good and engaging.

If you haven't read Abercrombie's other works, I'd highly recommend doing so. He's a great modern fantasy author, and unlike Martin he actually churns out books at a consistent and reasonable pace. Hell, he wrote the Shattered Sea trilogy while he was supposed to be taking a break from writing. :chuckle:

Without spoiling anything, I really like what he does with the "elves" in the second and third books. It's really unique in the fantasy genre.

I've been reading ASOIAF since the first book came out, and I really enjoy the show.

That being said, I really I wish they'd just finish the damn series in seven seasons and end it.

Why do you only want it to be seven seasons? Do you think extending it could be bad for entertainment reasons or because you're just impatient and want to know how it ends?

I could definitely understand the latter.

If they are going to do more than seven seasons, and that was the plan, it doesn't really explain their decision to compress and cut out the majority of the Northern Plot from ADWD. For time reasons one can see why one might make the decision to deliver a seriously inferior version (unless one is a devotee of Sansa rape, the North Not Remembering, no Manderleys or any other Northern houses, and the rushed and poorly written denouement at Winterfell and Snow knifed for [feelings reasons]) of those events. Otherwise it doesn't make much sense.

What Abercrombie books would you recommend, and what order?
