The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread (includes spoilers)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Which...Cersei never turns down wine.
Underrated Season 5 moment: When Cersei visits Margaery and her girls at breakfast and Margaery smiles in Cersei's face and says "I wish we had some wine for you! It's a bit early in the day for us."

:chuckle:

Is that second Cersei clip of her after hearing of Jaime's death? That effs with prophecy, so I think it's more likely that the news has hit about the fall of Winterfell and she thinks/assumes Jaime died. He shows up later to off her, probably sacrificing himself in the process.

Tyrion can still kill her right even if Jaime dies, correct?

I have to say that I am a little annoyed at how Jaime has not regained his sword ability in his off hand. He should be able to figure that out over the course of 5 years or whatever it is supposed to have been.

Lol I like the show change they made to Margaery.

In the book, Margaery actually IS the perfect girl and Cersei just assumes the worst. Assumes she's a liar and pretender and a whore.

In the show, Margaery actually kinda is a game player and a pretender and a faker, but she's so good at it.

Prequel might not happen now. HBO has a new guy in charge and he was non-committal about the Long Night show happening.
His answer was less "maybe we'll do it maybe we won't" like he wasn't into it, and more "we're only gonna do spin offs and prequels if they're actually good." Said he really doesn't want to dilute a high value property with crap.

So it may depend on the pilot and the scripts that come out of it. Can't say I disagree with it.

I still wanna see a Rhaegar/Robert flashback.

Just like the Tower of Joy, where the flashback told us the real story, including Ned not actually besting Arthur Dayne, I think there's more to the story than Robert just slaying Rhaegar in single combat.

Eh...I think Margaery is scheming in the books as well. Doesn't mean she's not still a decent person, at least compared to most of the other characters, but I think she has motivations behind her actions beyond just being good.

So I can see that take, I just don't think I agree. I think she's everything Cersei thinks she's pretending to be. It just so happens to work out for her extremely well.

Like, she really IS a virgin. She really DOES care about the people. She really IS a faithful believer in the Seven.

At least that's how I thought it read.

Yeah, I always assumed Margaery was the same as Margaery in the show, but we don't get POV, so we only get to experience her "sweet" persona that she puts to the world.

So, given how often they've showed the Winterfell crypts in the promos and trailer, what the hell is going to happen there? Think the Kings of Winter will rise from their graves?

Could definitely be the case. I tend to think it's a bit of both. She is that good, but at the same time she is doing her own little scheming, getting into Tommen's good graces and making sure Cercei doesn't corrupt him. For her, the best case scenario when she gets married is for her to get Tommen to push Cercei away and listen to her, which effectively makers her (and, by extension, the Tyrells) the ruler of the Seven Kingdoms.

Oh yeah, @Rich I know we've discussed the need for new Others in this thread. I had a thought today. It seems reasonable that each Other can only control a certain amount of wights, right? Like, I don't think a single one could warg (or whatever this equivalent is) an unlimited number of the things. So perhaps they were using Craster to build their army, creating new Others who could in turn grow their army by increasing the amount of wights they could control at once.

Some really interesting theories (including this one you mentioned Jack) on the Binge Mode trailer breakdown episode today. Regarding the Kings of Winter rising, they pointed out that Jon had that exact same dream in the books.

One theory I had not heard and thought was amazing was this:

That the crypts, as well surmise, hold ancient secrets, including possibly the burial spot / prison of the Great Other. That Winterfell is named exactly that for that exact reason. It's the spot where winter fell. Bran the builder built the first keep over the crypts, decreed there must always be a Stark in Winterfell, and that while the rest of the castle is reasonably warm because of the hotsprings, the crypts are contrastingly cold.

Maybe the Night's King raises the Great Other from imprisonment after the WW's take Winterfell in episode 3 (assuming they do, which seems super likely).

BTW if you're not listening to Binge Mode, it's fantastic. Highly recommended.

That's a great theory as well.

I've long wondered if "there must always be a Stark in Winterfell" perhaps was supposed to mean that there must always be a King of Winter, and that the Starks kneeling to the Targaryens during the Conquest is what indirectly led to the return of the Others. That it violated an ancient pact.

The timeline seems semi-consistent, as it would presumably take the Others some time to build up their numbers to the point where they could actually be a threat. Further, 300 years is nothing at all to a race that seems immortal.

I don't know if you guys saw the EW promo photos but the NIght King has the 7 pointed star in his eye.

So...no idea what means. At all.

Kinda felt for awhile that the only two actual deities (or whatever their approximation will be) that are real are R'hollor and The Great Other, and that all other religions in the world were just misinterpretations of aspects or actions of those two.
