The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread (includes spoilers)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Kinda felt for awhile that the only two actual deities (or whatever their approximation will be) that are real are R'hollor and The Great Other, and that all other religions in the world were just misinterpretations of aspects or actions of those two.

Personally, I don't think it's R'hllor talking to anyone. It just seems like what R'hllor wants seems to be conveniently setting everything up for the Others.

The only thing I'll say is it feels like a rather large giveaway that they'll take Winterfell and make it to the Capital. Whole 7 pointed star in the Throne Room and whatnot.

Also, while I have no hope that we find out much of anything about the White Walkers and the NIght King, I have more hope about the religion of the red priests. Mel is coming back, and we're almost assuredly gonna get to see her in VOlantis with Big Tits McGee. I can't WAIT to see that shit. Cannot wait.

My guess is that Melisandre's role in the story is to find out that her entire religion is a lie and that the thing speaking to everyone in the flames is the Great Other, as I believe @Rich has speculated on here previously.

Also, crackpot theory...the Battle of Winterfell (Part Two) starts out with Cercei (probably not there in person) attacking Winterfell with the Golden Company. After she miscarries, she says fuck it, no one gets to be happy, and marches her army north to take our her anger on the only enemies she has left. The Others show up midway through the battle and fuck everyone's shit up, and the Golden Company break their contract with Cercei and change sides to fight with Jon. This would conveniently allow for quite a few stories to be wrapped up, like Mountain/Hound. I also think the thing that Arya is running from might be the Mountain. That's something I could see actually scaring her.

Presumably the Golden Company have to break their contract at some point, right? Otherwise what's the point of constantly bringing up that they've never broken one?

I think something rising from the crypts really has legs. Whether that be the Great Other, the kings of Winterfell, etc... Arya's terror to me points to one of those things happening. Something completely effed up happens in those crypts and I'm here for it.

Ned's bones.

Ned's bones.

It's an interesting thought, and I don't know how the magic works, but Ned's bones were delivered in a box. That skeleton was never whole when buried in Winterfell. Unsure as to how that would work.

True. I don't think chopping heads off does anything, so maybe it raises a headless skeleton? We know arms work when severed at least.

I don't think the Others and R'hllor are the same thing. Otherwise there is no conflict. It's fire and Ice. I don't see the WW using fire to achieve their ends.

I don't think there are any gods. It's mankind versus death. Can the humans come together and win or bicker amongst themselves and die?

Problem is I doubt Ned is recognizable at this point.

Rickon is probably the only corpse fresh enough to be recognized by anyone, but I'm not sure that would be enough to scare Arya.

It's why I'm sticking with her running from zombie Mountain.

There is a moment in the trailer when Arya is fighting on the wall with a spear. She slashes an enemy and you see a large spurt of blood.

Pretty sure wights don't bleed, and Others shatter when they are killed.

Hence why I think the Battle of Winterfell will start out as Starks and Lannisters, although with Jaime fighting for the Starks.

Hard for me to make claims like there aren't any gods when a young boy can see through time and the dead walk. All bets are off and dragons and magic are real. I do wonder how the children of the forest play into the end.

I think there is magic. Just no actual gods. If there is a Great Other, I think he is the source of the Others power, but not a god. Kind of like how other types of magic started to return to the world after Dany's dragons hatched.

What's the difference between a god and a super powerful being?

Do you think there was any magic before the dragons were hatched? I mean Melisandra is clearly magical. She didn't join Stannis after the dragons were hatched. She is an old hag that looks like a young woman.

Well, I would consider a god to be something not of the physical. A force rather than a being.

The Night King is seemingly immortal and very powerful, but I wouldn't consider him a god. He was presumably created with magic. Maybe the Great Other is different, but if he's just a more powerful version of the Night King, I wouldn't consider him a god.
