The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread (includes spoilers)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Yeah, what is even the point of the Night's Watch? LOL The Wildlings have all joined, or are dead. The WWs are dead. Is there some reason why it should still exist? No answers for us.

Jon's comment about there still being a Night's Watch was funny. I think we all thought the same thing. Wait, what? LOL

Feels like it could have been a good finale with more time spent building up to it. I didn't really have an issue with much that happened in a vacuum, but the real issue is that there was absolutely no build up to them nominating Bran. He's barely spoken to most of the characters who voted for him to be their king. They should have been planting the seeds for this the past two years since Bran returned to Winterfell. He should have been having conversations with all of these key characters and showcasing how useful his knowledge is. He should have been integral to winning the war against the Night King, not bait. He should have been rolling around proving his worth rather than simply spectating the final battle via ravens.

Like, what if he steals the Night King's dragon at some point in the battle and uses it to lay waste to the army of the dead at a crucial moment? They're about to be overrun and Bran buys them just enough time to retreat. Then his knowledge proves useful again in the final battle somewhere down in the south. All of a sudden, electing him as king doesn't seem so ridiculous because he's basically the reason there is still a kingdom.

Similarly, I don't necessarily take issue where a lot of the characters ended up. It's just the road there was way too fucking rushed.

I also think they should have exiled Jon rather than send him to the Night's Watch that has basically zero reason to exist at this point. They exile him and he chooses to go North rather than East like Jorah Mormont did.

I hope one day we get some real insider stories.

Because everyone and their mother has better ideas for how to use Bran than the show did. Someone out there had to approach D&D with some of them. Why, then, did they use literally nothing? I REFUSE to believe George has Bran's story going like this. No fucking way. So like...I mean they just really hate the magical elements of the story that much huh?

They took this story because of the Red Wedding scene and just sorta had to put up with the fantasy elements, I think.

Couldnt agree more on the score. Incredible. Anytime that Targaryen medley kicked in I got some feels.

Rains of Castamere was iconic as well.

Ramin Djawadi does leitmotif very well. The first episode of Season Two introduced some key new characters with amazing visuals (the red comet) and music.

In particular Melisandre's theme fading into Stannis' theme evokes the mystical part of the show that D&D really got away from in later seasons.

Would have loved it if Bran got the throne from a very sinister and methodical plan all along. Really hope RR has something like that up his sleeve.

He probably will sit on the throne, but it's got to be more methodical and build up than what they threw together last night.

Hell, I would have even settled for the theory he became The Night King compared to giving us nothing. I would have settled for silly, if it was at least interesting. They gave us notta though with Bran. Such a big letdown.

I was think Bran's storyline will be the one that is much more earned. I also don't think it's has to be a sinister way of getting the throne. I think he could have been more instrumental to the battles that the readers will know about but the people around him didn't. The quiet person who was always looking out for everyone.

Maybe we will see some more of his emotions internally. Thing like maybe he tries warging into Drogon to save Kings landing. Maybe he is finally able to warg into Drogon after Dany dies because something with the living bond between rider and dragon is broken. Thus he is able to save Jon from Drogon burning him.

At the end of the books maybe the readers feel like Bran isn't just the best choice but had been the protector of men the whole time. With no night king and Dany burning Kings landing, he finds himself willing to be King because he realizes he has to protected the realm from themselves or something like that. Him being King just allows him to go on protecting the people of Westeros. Maybe we get some backstory to Bran the builder and others that Bran admired thru time.

More than any other character, it's Bran that makes me wonder if GRRM just didn't hold a bunch of stuff back from them for the sake of being able to tell his own story.

He gives them the bare bones. Like, 4 or 5 big moments, and then lets them figure out the rest?

Because I just can't believe he didn't tell them more about Bran and they chose to have him do literally nothing? SO maybe he gave them nothing, on purpose?

EDIT:

It's important to remember George stopped working on the show ENTIRELY after s4. So like, any interaction he has with them is when they call him up and ask questions. It's entirely possible their interactions were very, very limited after s4 and a good chunk of this is just them trying to piece together major plot points he gave them in like 2012.

I always thought they held back from Bran's storyline because it would have ruin their CGI budget while adding alot of extra sets and places. Bran is warging and exploring the world but also exploring the past with his greensight.

Also I think Bran's storyline might have been more revealing than D&D wanted for the tv show. You can describe a hazy picture with words but with TV and the internet even putting up a shot for a couple seconds people will be a slow it down and screen cap it to figure out what they are seeing.

What about the fact that prisoner Tyrion is somehow conducting the entire assembly?

What in the world.......is going........on?

Yeah everyone just listens to him??

So odds that Dave and Dan ever reveal what, exactly, the 3rd WTF moment is? I'm betting not, with all that's happened since they last talked about it.

Could be like 5 things, they won't wanna spoil what's George's and what's theirs, I don't think.

But, in no particular order, King's Landing getting blown up, Jon killing Daenerys, Bran as king, A dragon destroying the wall. Four good contenders.

To me KL getting blown all the way up, I guess, is the most unexpected? But, I gotta remember, these two thought Shireen burning was a WTF moment even though anyone who has read the 2nd book can tell that girl is marked for death straight away.

EDIT: I guess throw in Arya killing whatever thing you kill to win the war against the AoTD? That one surely seems made out of thin air though.

Yeah everyone just listens to him??

This was moments after Grey worm told him to shut his mouth. He didn't want to hear another word from him.

Then he listens and allows Tyrion to talk everyone into their next King. This is after Tyrion admits all his decisions sucked. LOL

Yet, everyone just listens to him.

Just completely ridiculous.

Sorry, dumb question but was it snow or ash in this episode?

Seemed like snow but very odd how winter apparently comes and goes.

Yeah, this has precedent.

Like that time...

You know, scanning my memory banks, something similar has not happened. There is no precedent.

Former prisoners have, after having been persecuted for political beliefs, swayed their people into choosing new leaders, or have been elected themselves. For example, Napoleon III, and lately Nelson Mandela.

But that generally happens *after* they've been freed or acquitted.

It was melting on Jon's face so it has to be snow.

I just think everyone knew whoever was going to be King was going to come from the people who were in winterfell for the long night. They had the numbers and Grey Worm basically wants a king or queen to tell him what to do at that point. Grey worm is basically breed to be told what to do and have no free thinking.

I felt it wasn't so much Tyrion's speech but more of a oh shit we don't have a better option and the whole not being able to have kids opens up the door for each house to have hope they will one day rule.
